    Has it worked in the past? Is this a new setup? It sounds as if you do not have the correct settings for the SMTP. Who is your host provider? Is it a managed service or are you self managing it? If it is a managed service as the hosting provider. If it is self managed you have some configuration work to do in the php.ini file for the SMTP settings. The catchall mail sounds as if that is where the delivery of the mail was sent because of the settings of SMTP and you can't do anything with those but forward them to the sender manually once you get the SMTP settings corrected.

    What type of server is it? You sendmail application or wrapper script may require authentication to help prevent spambots using the service for free and to keep your IP from becoming blacklisted.

      I would really love to setup my own email server. Is there a free software that I can use and set up on one of my home machines? I love to try and setup my own email server and hopefully this will trigger my interests and dedication with server management. It has been my frustration to handle servers.

        Simple answer, yes. Look for IMAP and POP3 servers. Your luck will be in how you have your home network setup and the OS of those "machines".

    If you are frustrated about managing servers,in order to get healed you need to loose your fears,nowadays there is a whole lot opportunities to learn since there are many cheap dedicated servers,I mean thats how I learned and I dont think any money invested was lost by the contrary dont be afraid to rent a dedicated server for one month,simply try to do this by your ownself
    1- Mount discs
    2-Install apache,php,mysql,ftp
    3-Try to virtualize it and if you achieve so manage the vps's you make

    After this you will be able to manage anything and if you are not interested on vps biz,simply now buy a vps and do stuff there is also good training to manage a server since anyway you got to learn to use ssh.

    Try hotscripts.com to find something for ur purpose,good luck by the way if you want to use a home machine as a server for biz you need to meet certain requirenments,hd,memory,processor apart yoo got to be allright with the biz side so they sell you bandwidth,and you got to burn a lynux iso image disc for you to boot ur machine and be welcomed to a new world of dreams named lynux,you are most welcome.

    Can you tell how this php.ini details should be,so tell a friend work?
    [mail function]
    ; For Win32 only.
    SMTP = localhost
    smtp_port = 25

    ; For Win32 only.
    ;sendmail_from = me -at-example.com

    ; For Unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i").
    sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

        Captcha only limits the SPAM BOTS. It doesn't limit someone manually posting the SPAM. There are services that can help with it if you get much of this spam. You could try techniques like only approved users get to comment or send mail while the yet to be approved user can comment or send mail gets moderated until proven trustworthy if you can't afford to pay for a service.

    Do you really think there are spammers who will bother to send spam manually via captcha-protected forms? That's too inefficient for them...

    Yes, I have them in many sites. Usually they just want a free link promoting their own site but they do take the time to get an account to post a comment that I then go and bug them to pay me for advertising.

    Yes, but i thought we are talking about email spammers who are exploiting tell-a-friend forms? For email spam it won't work, volume's too low
