nameserver - other way than changing nameserver?

I have someone wanting me to build them a WP website. Currently they have their domain and website already in use with a hosting company.

He wants me to host is new website but the problem is that he has given me a incorrect username and password to his current domain/hosting company (netfirms).

I have to be able to point the nameserver to bluehost, other than getting the correct login info, is their any other way of pointing the nameserver to bluehost?

I have sent many emails requesting the proper info but he keeps trying to put this back on me.

Thanks

There is no other way. Otherwise anyone could take anyone else's domains willy nilly. Your client needs to understand that he must either give you the legit details or change nameservers himself. Good luck, people like that can be frustrating to deal with.

You have to physically do it where the domain is held so you need those log in details - like ironmike said there is no other way to do it

Very frustrating. All I can suggest is to try and be very patient and explain the situation back to the client and lowering your expectation of their IT understanding.

    Hello!
When it comes to development, you can change the host file of the computer or internal network in discussion, but when it comes to the main DNS host of the site, you need to edit it at the registrar and that is the only way.

      Thank you for your help!

I have gained assess at EDThosting dot com.

2 questions I hope you can answer for me:

-One in EDThosting, where do I go to direct the nameserver to bluehost. I have looked around and having troubles.

-His current website is hosted through EDThosting, so as soon as I change the nameserver to bluehost, will this take down his current website and then I can start building the new website?

      Thanks again!

Here's a quick workaround that might let you find it:

    1. Lookup the domain on Whois Search - Domain Name Search | Whois lookup | Availability Checker or any other whois facility - to see what the nameservers are set to at the moment

    2. Look around with your login at EDThosting dot com until you find the nameserver settings that you identified in #1 above

    3. Change them to the correct settings for your bluehost account

    Hope this helps...

You can update your local DNS settings for testing purposes. How you do this depends on if you use Mac or Windows. This is called editing the hosts file, and basically lets you override world-wide-web dns settings.
