I am not a programmer as well but I do learn simple and effective php from this source. Hope it would help you because it is difficult and expensive to hire a programmer to have site done.

Why not try ebay?
Make a new sites need to drive traffic, a lot of on site implementation need to do.
A Ready site is great, you can straight get buyer from their membership.

Users can post items for auction, or just buy now like ebay, and buyers will buy them and pay through paypal (even paypal adaptive payments are supported so you as the admin can take a percent out of each sale)

To be 100% honest why would you want to use something 100+ people are already using?

Some of those scripts out there are so buggy.

WebdevelopentGroup is 100% right - do not and I mean do not waste your time or money - especially if your not a programmer on software that is so buggy it will drive you nuts.

And all the software out there is buggy - there were some good ones but they all went broke when all the junk developers started up.

If your determined to do this use the Wordpress plugin at least you have some kind of community support.

What marketplace are you trying to go after - what will make your site special - how are you going to promote your site??

Just my 2 cents worth from a guy who has spent many thousand of hours to try and make a site that offers a lot and yet is simple and easy to use.

I have tried a few free auction scripts and they are too buggy an rather un professional looking with few of the options i wanted.
I also tried a wordpress plugin but again could not get the look and feel i wanted,

I found some great software that is hosted and set up free for just $24 monthly
( or you can buy the software files and host it on any server )

Check out MyPHPAuction. Not free but it is a good one and priced pretty low with great support for newbies, I've used it before.

Most of the other ones are too expensive and they're hacks of this script and are sold by people hiring freelancers to work on it so you most probably wont get proper support. Good luck.
