Make copy of entire WP site?

We're about to have some web development down, and I want to back out entire site up incase it goes belly-up.

Is there a way to do this? If it's as simple as copying a folder - which one should we copy?

Thanks!

The answer depends on what type of website you have!

If you have a simple html/css website - you likely only need to download your website folders (via ftp is fine)

If you use Wordpress/Joomla/Drupal or any database driven site
You need to back-up the database and the files

There is software available to help - just be sure to test your back-up, ok?
I have used the following free scripts by Ovidiu for years - available for all types of sites

XCloner - Website Backup and Restore | Professional Backup application, Joomla backup extension, Wordpress backup plugin

    Good luck!

I use BackupBuddy to copy entire WordPress sites (I'm guessing from the title of your thread your site is on WordPress).

BackupBuddy is a paid plugin but I wouldn't be without it.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

What type of hosting do you have? If you have cPanel it really easy as webpeon pointed out; just a few mouse clicks.
Otherwise you should back up your files, might as well do all of them (but the wp-content folder is the most important) and backup your database as well.

Run a full backup. And restore the backup after what you have done.

You need to run a full backup. Tutorial here:

    WordPress Backups « WordPress Codex

Make sure you've saved the right mysql database.
