A bunch of our domains that we purchased through GoDaddy are not resolving, and the godaddy site is down.

    my advise:
    STAY away from Godaddy

    Why?
Go Daddy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SOPA issue + that dickhead CEO saying shooting elephants was a sport for real men and everybody should do that once in their lives.

On top of that their support sucks, their registrar admin system really sucks and there are better (and cheaper) alternatives out there.

Btw FxDomains.com (also owned by Godaddy) is down also

Yes the coupon is godaddyisdown and it also takes 50% off 1 year or more invoices.

Update 09/12/12: That deal is now over. The 50% off hostgator discount coupon has expired.

The whole SOPA / PIPA support by godaddy was ridiculous and I should have dropped them like a bad habit when that happened.

I guess Godaddy eventually denied that it was a hack. I swear i saw an article saying that.
But, i know that anon claimed responsibility, and there was some crazy stuff showing up in whois data.. Not sure if I completely believe their statement...

Luckily, we had just finished our launch when our sites went down. But we did end up with some fussy customers who couldn't access their purchases..

That never happened. Just some amateurs who don't know how the WHOIS tool works. If you look up paypal.com, you'll get subdomains of other domains people have created starting with "paypal.com" (i.e. "paypal.com.lol.example.com") that are also in the .com zone file. That doesn't indicate PayPal's been hacked and isn't part of PayPal's WHOIS result.

If you want only PayPal.com's actual record, you look up the FQDN, "paypal.com.". Note the period at the end.

They are a big company . Sure this is not a good thing, but It may happen to any company . There are many people waiting for a little thing to say that GoDaddy is not a hosting network and everyone should not use them, but I totally disagree, They are just some competitors . Overally, GoDaddy is of very high quality

You do realize that by releasing the statement they did, they basically told you that they have been blatantly lying to their customers when it comes to redundancy. Sure, all of their nameservers might be on different subnets, but it means nothing if they're in the same datacenter.

Their "we're sorry, here buy this" apology letter was nothing more than an upsell.

As a result of this disruption, you will receive 30% off any new product or renewal.* Seriously? That's their apology? They should be issuing a credit, not trying to get you to buy more.

I don't think It's a good apology either, but sine they have many users offering credit is not a very easy to do option for them

Why? Because they'd have to do the "ethical" thing?

Because the DNS service that went down is not something 99% of their users pay for. It's something they got for free with their domain registration, which many of them already paid less for than GoDaddy paid Verisign to actually do the registration, thanks to the constant availability of coupons.

When their customers paid $5 per year, what exactly should they have given them for the DNS service failure?

People that pay GoDaddy for hosting and other services are a tiny minority of their overall customer base. Their primary business is domain registration, where the profit margins are tiny to nonexistant. It's that minority they can upsell other things during checkout that makes them profitable.
