Can This Be Done? FB Question!

Hi, l have some installed software on my Facebook fan page, which isn't finished, and am hoping that another programmer could finish this app off, so l can eventually release it as a WSO!

So is this possible, and l do own the rights to the almost completed app!

    What does the app do?

App is a facebook product shop, with admin area, and displays products, etc.

I really wanted to find out if another programmer can get access to the almost completed app, and finish it off.

Facebook is a little weird, so l'm not sure about this? And l am also hoping that the new programmer can give me the software at the end, (pull it off FB) so purchasers can download it!

tagiscom .. with respect I must ask what kind of response do you expect from this post? You dont link to the app, you dont describe the app, you give no information.

Hey I have this thing, on this thing, that does this thing, but the things isnt finished, so I was wondering if it is possible for someone to finish the thing with my thing.

Oh oops... I just re-read your message and it occurred to me that your question may be about copyright and not about programming at all .. If you talking about copyright then you should be aware that freelance work is owned by the programmer (even if you paid him to create it), unless there is a written agreement between you and him that the work was 'work for hire'

Hi, well you will have to bear with me, l am not a programmer.

But to answer your question, the link to the app is here...Waterdrop - Products | Facebook

And l purchased this software from him. months ago. He is just modifying it. And before you ask, he hasn't sold it to anyone else, or is allowed to.

I do have the receipts to prove this, so that isn't an issue, the issue has been and is, he takes forever to finish it!

So, l just want the option to get it finished by another programmer and then pull it, so l have it on my Laptop, and then can zip it up, etc so anyone can purchase it and download it!

"I do have the receipts to prove this, so that isn't an issue,"

Well what I was trying to say Shane is a receipt for payment does NOT necessarily give you copyright unless you have a written agreement stating that this work is 'work for hire' and that he is relinquishing copyright as part of this payment. Just because you paid him to do the work does not make it yours.

Ok that being said. What exactly is unfinished?

Well, l also have the email messages, clearly stating that the software hasn't been sold to anyone else, and payment wouldn't be made unless l owned full rights to it!

Well nothing much, just moving text down so it doesn't overlapp the buy now button, (lunch bag graphic), and simple things like that, putting the admin section on my FB page is probably the labor intensive part, (as far as l know).

And changing it so anyone could install it themselves!

My current programmer wants to install it himself after someone orders! Wasn't crazy about that part, but since he is perpetually on holiday, rarely comes home, and has taken almost 4 months to do this, l am looking into other options!

Hi Shane ! I would say that eve if you have hired a professional for developing some apps for your facebook, still then the copyright of that particular apps would be reserved with that developer only. Although your idea is very interesting but still if you have not made any written agreement regarding the authority of the software, then I guess you would just be able to "buy" it not to "own" it.

Ok, rasynomarlo, l will get him to send over some confirmation, so the copyright issue is resolved!

Even when he is on holiday he can still send something over!

Sorry xuled, you pretty much know most of this app, l can't and wont give away all it's tricks!

I just wanted a programmers professional opinion as to whether or not l can get another programmer to get into my Facebook page and complete this app, and then download it, to my computer, so customers can download and install it themselves, etc

Ok, so what you are saying that since the copyright rests with him the software won't allow another programmer to edit the software on my FB page. Or are you just saying that it can be changed by any programmer, but l need a note saying that l own copyright to it???

    Shane,

It would not be a difficult task to get a programmer to make those small cosmetic changes to the app. It would also not be very difficult to create a 'members area' on your site so that the users can install the app on there fanpage themselves.

I dont freelance anymore .. but you might try Elance. There are some good programmers on there that Im sure could fix you up. I dont know your budget, but when I was freelancing I would have placed a cost on this of around $300 and a time frame of less than 3 days.

Thanks for the feedback, yep, l did try Elance, $280 dollars later and 4 months of waiting l am understandably getting a bit ruffled!

But it is great to know that l have a way out! Phew! Yep l have hired some pretty good programmers on Freelance, and will complete this project when the time is suitable!

Thank again for all your help!

Wasn't my chioce; the programmer approached me, and said that he could deliver this in a few days!

Then after a lot of modifications, etc, it got to the almost completed stage, you see here!

That was after he, (and maybe his girlfriend) went on repeated holidays, etc.

And instead of completing the task, seemed to put smaller projects ahead of mine, probably because l made the mistake of paying him upfront, and not reading his details on Elance!

The language barrier doesn't help, but it is good to know that l can finish this and include admin for this on FB as well as the customer being able to install this themselves!
