Hello All,

I have recently started one website which has classifieds features. Users can upload video ads in the website. Although my website has not launched yet and still I feel the site is too slow. I have read a lot on Google about working on the codes to speed up your website but I want to know the areas which helps in increasing the website speed for eg: having different databases for all categories or buying dedicated server or any other. PLease let him me everyone.

What language/database structure does the site implement?

If your running on a shared hosting plan then you will never be as fast as possible. Dedicated servers help out ALOT whenever it comes to server side processing...

More RAM on your hosting account, and modify the script to cache listings to a flat file that are only updated (built from a database) when a change has been made.

You need to remove the uploading video feature first. Try to learn the YouTube api and use them. Start calculating numbers and you will see no one would give you enough bandwidth or storage for letting your users to upload videos. We are talking about both shared or dedicated servers. Unless if you want to spend money like large uploading video sites. You mentioned Google is working on something and the answer is yes and it came out of beta version while ago. It is called mod_pagespeed. Have your server to install it for you.

Thanks for your reply. Very much informative.

We really wanted to have video uploading option on the website as a feature coz thats is what unique USP we would have on the site. We are using youtube only I guess..Users need to paste the youtube URL and the video would be uploaded. Is there any other option on uploading video as we really want this feature.

Optimize your HTML code and SQL queries. Perhaps you have a slow hosting or Internet connection

Go through YouTube API. Users can upload videos without going to YouTube or without any copy pasting. It will be a week of work for someone with no experience on this matter. Best of luck.

This sounds so fantastic, do you know any website who has done this so that I can see how it looks and I can definitely tell my tech team to integrate this on the ad uploading section.
