First off if your lazy then programming isn't the thing to get into! It takes quite a bit of effort and determination to reach the heights which you could actually make money with the skill....

The three languages you listed, (html, php, javascript) all do very different things. Html really isn't a programming language, but a markup language used by your web browser to display data. Php stands for "hypertext pre processor" and is used to run server side scripts that determine what to display depending on particular conditions. Javascript is a client side language used to create live functionality in a web page without having to "Post Back" to a server.

If you really want to learn web development though those are the ones you want to stick with. I would steer clear of anything to do with asp/microsoft...if you would like to know why I can provide quite a rant lol...

I couldn't possibly agree more with this statement!
I am the acting CTO of 5 active internet based companies that employ over 100 people spanning 3 offices. The backbone of each operation is our development departments, which l oversee. I've interviewed, hired, and fired many, many developers over the years. And the most important personality trait of every developer on my team is *passion*.

We develop because we love to do it, not because it's easy to find a job making a decent paycheck. If l were a billionaire without a care in the world l would spend my time developing web properties. It's what l love, it's the one thing all great developers love.

Now stepping off my high horse, here's a direct answer to your question. Here's the path l took:

1.) learn raw HTML and CSS like the back of your hand. (Here's the best book l used (you can buy it used for less than .50 cents on amazon: HTML Goodies (2nd Edition): Joe Burns Ph.D.:...HTML Goodies (2nd Edition): Joe Burns Ph.D.:... )

2.) Once you've got a strong understanding there, throw JavaScript into the mix to start doing some neat things. How how with HTML and Javascript under your belt, you know DHTML as well! (Here's the best book l used (you can buy it used for less than $1 on amazon: JavaScript Goodies (2nd Edition): Joe...JavaScript Goodies (2nd Edition): Joe... )

3.) Now that you can do anything on the front end, you'll need to learn how to do backend work to "make it all happen". Start with PHP and then add MySQL into the mix after you're comfortable. (Good book: PHP6 and MySQL Bible: Steve Suehring,Tim...PHP6 and MySQL Bible: Steve Suehring,Tim... )

With a strong understanding of each of these scripting languages you'll be able to tackle any web project you can imagine.

It's important to note there is no short-cut. Studies have shown it takes nearly 10 years of real world experience to "get it" in regards to web scripting and programming. (Bloom (1985), Bryan & Harter (1899), Hayes (1989), Simmon & Chase (1973)).

    Good luck!

Well, maybe if you create a fun project to work on (like an IM project?), then you would not get bored. Then you would have something to work towards, and would get better. Create some hypothetical project, then begin the process of learning what tools you need to complete it.

Dwoods has summed it up very clearly, so I won't be going in to the details of the language. I would move towards motivation.

You need to get up and start doing without planning. Yes you heard it right. According to my observation, people waste most of their time planning virtually everything even when it actually has nothing to do with the task at hand. And what do they do when they are done planning? They plan some more !!

Action is what starts off something. Grab a decent book and start off. If you like what you are doing by the end of the book then congratulations you just uncovered a hidden passion.

But if not then you would probably get lazier. You simply cannot do what you don't like to.

Well, if you want to learn web development, then you should go for Java EE, Node.js, Ruby etc.

If you want to go for web designing then, HTML, CSS, JavaScript are what that comes under this niche.

If you are lazy, then you must addicted to some thing first, if you have creativity then go for CSS, the best choice and you'll get addicted to it as soon as possible therefore it makes say a good bye to your laziness What do you say?

Being lazy isn't the end of the world, I can be pretty lazy at times. But programming is something I've worked really hard at to get good at, and continue to work hard to get better at. Sure, I may be able to work from home in the comfort of my chair, but I still work hard every day, which is the best way to ensure things will pay off in the end.

I would say structure and practice. This is why I recommend code academy. Learn to code | Codecademy

The more you actually code, the better you'll get. I recommend reading or watching the course/tutorial and then go over it once more while applying it.

Oh. You may also want to get involved with a development community. Just have a little fun and help people when you can. Research their issues and you'll really further your understanding of a topic.

I wish you the best of learning!
