Using MediaWiki as a membership site?

MediaWiki has membership functionality built in. However, how would one go about programming it so that one would have to first pay maybe money through PayPal for a year membership or an on-going monthly fee? I hope this is alright to post here. Is there any plugins for it that anyone knows about? I could not find any. I think that a plugin would have to be programmed/created.

    I guess you can use PayPal extension for this purpose. This extension will create a PayPal-Button, which leads users to your PayPal-Donation-Site.

      That might work, but I'm looking for something that could actually have users pay before they are able to sign up and have it all be done automatically. Maybe I need to look to hire someone or collaborate if I am going to be serious about this.
