Can't locate Google Analytics Goal code

Hi,

sometime ago I set up a GA for a certain page on my website. Unfortunately, I mislaid the GA code.

I've logged back into my Google Analytics and found the Goal I previously defined under Profile->Goals, but I just can't seem to find where to get the actual code I need to put on my site's page.

It's driving me nuts.

Can anyone advise where I find my GA Goal code that I've created previously?

Thanks
Robert

  • Robert,

Depending on how the goal was set up, there may not be any code to find. In general, there really isn’t code for goals. Instead, you give analytics information to look for in order to record a goal completion. For example if you were to set up a URL destination goal, this would consist of (at minimum) the URI of the domain (i.e. everything after the .com). Whenever a visitor arrives at that specific page, a goal is recorded.

If you log into your analytics account, click on admin at the top right, click on the profile you have the goal set up in (if you only have one profile click on that), and see what type of goal it is.

The only time there would really be code is if you set up a goal to track an event or a pageview. Then the code would be installed on whatever it is you are tracking. For instance _gaq(trackpageview) might be installed on a submit button or a link somewhere on a page.
