Word Press 3.5 is Killing my sites...

After updating my website to WP 3.5 something went terribly wrong. A site that I have had for quite a while, without any problems, now barely shows up. When I type in the url, it takes about 5-10 minutes for the site to appear, same thing when I go into the WP Admin area.

Another site that I also updated has the weird thing of being super slow in the admin area, but when I type in the url it comes up without a problem, maybe because it's a simple site.

I contacted my host and they told me since other sites are showing up, it has nothing to do with their servers. I"m running GoDaddy - Deluxe plan.'

I've gotten rid of all plugins and still to no avail.

I"m at a loss on what to do now, and having serious thoughts about using WordPress ever again.

Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

    Check: Pingdom Tools

First of all.. get a better hosting.. Godaddy just sucks period.

As you can see from results your server takes ages to respond..
    Could be:
php is doing some VERY heavy work..
    Database takes ages to respond..

to check if the problem is Database install:
WordPress › MySQL Profiler « WordPress Plugins

If it is not your database it is php.. try putting a file on your server:
    test.php

    <?php
    phpinfo();
    ?>

upload the file and visit it with your browser.. does it take very long? something wrong with your webserver / account 100000%

If it loads fast it MIGHT be something else..

Are you using any type of redirect plugin or permalink plugin? These can sometimes still affect the site even if you have disabled them in admin. Try removing them entirely from the plugin folder - delete them. You could also check out the htaccess file and see if anything is untoward in that file too.

I'm also still a little suspicious that a plugin is to blame. While I agree that GoDaddy sucks, I don't think they're to blame for this.

Thanks Steve, and everyone else for the feedback, I'll follow up and see what else I can do.

So far I went into my FTP file manager, wp-config.php, and changed the line: define('WP_DEBUG', true)
This allowed me to get the following info:

    Notice
: Undefined index: std in /home/content
    themes/inki_v.2.1/functions.php
    on line 614

So yes, it seems to be a php issue. I'm not too goo at php and not really sure where to find this line and another similar one, and what to do.

If anyone knows of someone that is good at fixing php related issues let me know. I'm thinking of perhaps trying out my luck with Fiverr and see how it goes.

    Thanks again. Happy Holidays.

I had the exact same problem, my widgets area stopped working and other parts of my admin panel, i even tried disabling plugins and doing manual backups and still the same bugs.

Finally i realized how to downgrade WITHOUT losing anything, i later posted a guide on how to downgrade wordpress here.

When i downgraded(From 3.5 back to 3.4.2) everything was fine again.

      Hope this helps.

    Hi,

The php error you show is nothing.. it is a notice not even a warning.. that is not the reason for your problem.

Also the problem is not redirecting as that would have shown in the pingdom report I linked to..

also if you have any caching plugins try disabling them.. then restart browser clear cache and try loading your site again..

Recently I installed W3 Total Cache and instead of making my WP site faster it slowed down to the speed of slow sh*t.. probably with some configuring could have fixed it but don't have time for that..

Step one when you're trying to troubleshoot WP problems - deactivate all of your plugins, then rename the plugins folder. Revert to the TwentyTen theme. Clear your ping list. Clear your browser cache and cookies.

    THEN start looking for problems.

Sloppily-coded plugins and themes can cause exactly what you're experiencing.

BTW, I can just about 100% guarantee you that WP isn't the problem - it's a plugin, or your theme, or a conflict between them, possibly even content that you might have.

I cant be sure because I don't have the right access but...

Your data base and your content are on 2 separate servers (that much I can see). Your data base is being hosted from a bulk box that has nothing but data bases on it. And your content is on a separate box.

It would appear that when you upgraded it created a conflict with your data base server instructing your content sever to serve up the information.

This could be due to: data base error, new wp upgrade not "speaking" to the content server properly and the issue has not resolved, a corrupt plugin or a plugin on someone else's site that is overloading your shared box.

Give Go Daddy a call and you will be able to confirm that your split on 2 boxes. Then please report back here that it's correct.

When on the phone w/Go Daddy have them 1st check the server logs to see if they have an over clocking or over use going on. They will tell you "oh, there are no known issues" "and if there were our techs would be on it".
Don't allow them to be lazy have them check. If it is this problem then you or someone else (the other site owner) has to resolve it.

If not ask them about the other items I listed above.
But be sure to ask them about your data base and content being on two separate boxes (servers). I can see it plain as day.

P.S. If you want to stay in IM long term you may wish to reconsider Go Daddy.

        Also, 2 things.

        1. You don't have to scrub your Cache, cookies etc every time you want to see if servers of stations have updated. Just got to http://www.pagewash.com

Type in the site you want to see and it will scrub (wash) the everything for you including everything between you and your page/site.

        2. I just thought of this; Go Daddy will likely tell you that being on two boxes is no big deal and hurts nothing. Don't buy it. There's a reason everyone in IM say's they suck and it just struck me while I was thinking about how messed up that type of a system would be that that's likely the reason every always says that.

Hey, whereabouts in Peru are you?
I love Arequipa. Mira Flores is pretty cool but a little to big and a little to overcast for me. I know, there's the sunny'er area of Lima too but then Lima is about double the cost in some cases of Arequipa.

One good thing about Lima though you don't have your girl getting called Brichera all the time because no one seems to care too much about that in the big city.

Wherever you are, hows your internet?

Thanks everyone for all the feedback much appreciated!

I found out that it has nothing to do with the upgrade of WP because websites within the same go Daddy hosting that I have not upgraded to 3.5 are having the same issues. And with one website its really strange, everything works fine on the user end but when I log into the Admin panel it just freezes up.

I opened a ticket with GoDaddy yesterday and I was told it would take 24hrs for a response, just called them back and was told it would be 72 hours perhaps.

I spoke with a GoDaddy manager and I'm not sure if he was just reading off the notes from when I first called, but he did agree that it wasn't something on my end with WP upgrade or anything else, that it was showing that it was a server issue.

And I did ask him about splitting of into two different boxes, and was told that this is done in case of malfunctions, hacks, or surges in their system. Not sure if I believe any of that myself.

Anyways this has been a nightmare and I've lost money in sales but oh well, I'll just make a strong website when this is all done and over with.

    Thanks again, you guys rock.
