URL forwarding software for my website?

I just purchased a neat domain name that I want visitors to be able to use as a URL forwarding service. I plan to use this as a list builder.

E.G. They choose a string: myurl.com/any_text >> theirurl.com/affiliateid.etc

Any ideas where I can find this? (Yes, I did try Google!)

Go to the common forwarders like bit.ly and the Google one. Sometimes they will let you register and use their shortening/forwarding software on your site. I think the A reference of a domain has to be changed by your hosting company to make this work.

I think what you are asking for is a bitly clone script?

I'd say use your registrar but you have to be careful you are forwarding correctly. Frames are something in particular you need to avoid at all costs.

Hmm, it loads for me. I tried two IPs as well... Though I did update the nameservers earlier today.

Well, that was most likely it, then. Unless you had both hosts running simultaneously, there's going to be a propagation delay.

After a few hours, it did work.

Without the leading "http://", the domain "AboutTh.is" yielded, "Invalid protocol!" You might consider pre-populating the field with "http://", or simply assuming it if it's not there.

The correct URL "http://AboutTh.is" worked, yielding the longer URL, "http://fwdme.info//g". You might consider using the standard single slash after your domain instead of a double-slash (which still seems to work, but just doesn't look right).

Finally, you might consider a slightly longer, more-random-appearing three or four characters (for starters) rather than just one, so as to reduce (but not eliminate) the risk of a robot crawling through your database.
