Best way to setup ebook store?

I'm researching a business idea based around, allowing authors to sell ebooks from a website.

What would be the best way to set that up? i'e tech wise? could it be done with wordpress? or would it need dedicated web programming? or are there templates already out there for such a service?

    I think you could look for a wordpress template that allows gallery type display of products, you could have a menu with main products and each drop down giving a list of related products, and when you click on any it brings up a carousel type display or a page with related products. Main page could have a faourites or best sellers for example.

    I have not used any of these templates myself except shopperpress a while back but there are ones here:

    As I said I used shopperpress a few years back and to try and set up a site and found it quite painful to use, I don't know if they have improved their ease of use or not but it says you can set up sites in "minutes".

    As for the business idea itself are there other sites doing a similar thing as to what you want to do?

    Also have you thought about how the payments will work, will you require a % payment from each author for eBooks sold per month or week etc? I am not sure how this can be automated but you might like to look into that there is probably an easy way to manage it using a payment processor.

      Thanks for the links, some nice themes there. It's strange though that those kinds of themes never seem to include the option to buy/sell digital goods, or are responsive something which in this day and age you really need.

      I suspect I'll have to hire someone to create the site, even if based on WP because of all the customization that will be required.

      I'll be taking a percentage from the eBook sales.

      There are a number of eBook sellers online, ones called Amazon! but I feel I can bring something new to the table.

        I think I could lose count the amount of amazon affiliate sites out there , what are you thinking of bringing to the table?

          Obviously eBooks are still a relatively new situation for authors and publishers and I think there are perhaps new models that haven't been tried yet.
