I need to make some updates to this site that I did not create, but there is some custom coding done on the site. It is a Wordpress site.

How do I copy the files easily to have a backup file of the whole site in case any plugin or update crash the site.
#copy #template #theme

    best 2 ways.
1 ftp in to the server, wp-content, theme, save the theme they use to your computer. Then you need to export all the posts and pages which is under tools >> export. Uploading the posts and pages requires a plugin, but tools >> import will direct you to what you need

2 get a plugin called wp clone by wp academy, make a backup, save the backup, if you crash everything you can put up a clean wp install and upload the backup via ftp, add the wp clone plugin, then put the url in the restore by url box and then everything will be as it was

    then smile

Go to plugins -->Add new--> search for "Duplicator" a FREE plugin that will backup your whole wordpress site and allow you to restore it.

Now if you want a Paid Plugin to backup, The best are WP Twin, Backup Creator, Backup Buddy, and there are more. I prefer Backup Buddy and WP Twin!

I've had a lot of trouble with wp-twin, which is how I found wp clone, which is also free I haven't tried Duplicator but I always love testing new ones to se how they work.

          -Note-
The issue I had with wp twin was making a site on a dummy url and putting it on an entirely different host. WP Clone is able to do that without any problem and I haven't had any issues with it, as long as the php.ini has enough memory allocated to run the file. It'll have some crazy name, the dates and time, and it's a .zip file
