Word Press Data Feed Import and apostrophes

I'm having a problem with wordpress data feed import. It has to do with apostrophes and php I believe. The posts are getting cut short when I use an apostrophe ( ' ) for instance if I say friend's car, the post will end at friend. I know that can screw up php, but there is something I believe called magic quotes that may have an effect on this. I'm no programmer so could someone explain the best way to fix this problem. I know there are uses of /, magic quotes and some other methods, but I just don't know the right combonation

    Well, I'll admit I don't know much about backend programming. One question though, is Microsoft Word apart of the equation at all? I do know it uses its own apostrophes and it can wreak havoc on some systems.
