How do I add a DNS Record?

Hello folks,

Thank you for reading my post here. I need to post a dns record in a domain I will be putting up for sale on Flippa. I have no idea how to do this. I uploaded wordpress from the cpanel. Do I need to create a word document and paste the text there and then transfer the word document via Filezilla to the site? Or can I paste the record via the cpanel or right on wordpress?

I am trying to get this done and thought to ask here.

Thanks

DNS is separate from your website; it has nothing to do with WordPress or FTP. Your web host most likely also manages DNS, and probably has documentation on how to add a record, or how to request for it to be done. You mention cPanel; if you have this, there may/should be DNS configuration there.

Be careful to only add the one record (probably TXT) given; don't change anything that's already there before you research how to do so.

David is right. I don't know WHY you must add an item on a DNS record, if the site is already working. The record, for want of another term, is usually just a text file, but entering on windows, assuming you have a linux/unix server, could corrupt it, and changing it to a word format would REALLY corrupt it.

Cpanel does have an option to change/add the items, but you do have to be careful. Some will not affect you at all, but some will affect email or access to the domain itself.

And that stores only the authoritative information. If you switch domain names, or owners, for example, THAT must be done through your domain name registrar.

ALSO, if you change a domain name to your website, your WEB SERVER may be involved. I haven't done that with cpanel directly, so I don't even know if cpanel can do it. Don't fiddle with those files unless you know what you are doing.

Some entities require a TXT record to prove ownership. e.g., I've done this for AboutTh.is to confirm domain ownership for Google Apps, for our secure certificate, and for SPF.

Well, at least THAT won't hurt the site at all. So YEAH, CPANEL on the local DNS.

Just go to your domain registar account and you will find the All Host Records(NameCheap ) , if you need change the server where the domain is pointing just edit the A record.
If you wish to modify NameServers , You'll find them on admin panel , just update the existing NameServers with new ones.
