Is Firefox getting to be useless?

It use to be IE that had so many problems, then came Firefox. Now I have endless issues with FF. IN particular, no matter what I try I cannot get any apps requiring FLASH to run because I had to disable it. If I enable it , it consistently crashes.
#firefox #useless
  • Yea they have been really messy lately lots of bugs, updates etc etc.

Ditto here. It took forever for me to leave IE; I stayed too long. I had a short and exciting relationship with FF, but in the end things just didn't work out. (You know how it goes.) Now Chrome is in my life to stay (I hope...) ha ha

I just tweeted pretty much the same thing.. what a piece of CRAP FF has become!

I caught it using 900+ MB memory. It crashes SO often. The only reason I still open this software is because most of my logins are saved and I don't feel like looking them up but slowly I'm def moving on to Chrome. Even IE9 is like 10 times better then FF right now.

I was just going to say I switched back to FF recently to give it a try and am loving it, but when I read your post, I had to check the memory usage. I only had 8 tabs open and FF was pushing over 1 gig of memory usage. This is unacceptable!

This is very surprising. I love Firefox and it is my favorite browser. By the way, how to check memory usage?

yeah for all sites I visit with video I have to switch over to IE (I never imagined that would happen). With FF, it won;t run video , obviously because I have Flash Shockwave disabled. But, if I enable it , it crashes!! Go figure..?

I am not sure whether I like FF or Chrome. The last time I checked FF is running on 100MB of memory but a single Chrome has four 25MB of memory. So far both are very intensive but both are still the best options around.

Chrome! It doesnt have the plugins of Chrome, but it's fast and doesn't bug out. I still use FF for its plugins/addons, but only rarely. And IE seems to never work.

Hi, thank you for the advice. But I face many problems with chrome it keeps crashing all the time and sometimes, all the sites just shut down. This gives me a hard time. But now as you guys say even FF is not good, I am wondering what to use.

Flash works fine for me in Firefox, and I haven't seen others complain about it, so the problem's probably something specific to your setup.

Anyway, I still use Firefox. I have Chrome installed, too, for certain occasions, but I'm not a fan of the GUI. I much prefer Firefox's GUI and wide assortment of add-ons. I use to have a few issues with it being a RAM hog, but since I upgraded PC's (from 2GB of RAM to 8GB), it runs like a charm.

The line-height issue is aggravating in Firefox on Win7, if you design sites. It's like IE 5-7 used to be -- I have to do tricks and add special code.

The only thing that sucks about Chrome is the AJAX on many sites is fubar. Firefox gets that right still. Until that changes, I'll be sticking to FF for my normal browsing.

Those are the three choices: Chrome, FF and IE. It's nice to have choices, but sometimes the only choices aren't so great, and sometimes you only get to choose between verizon or comcast Pick your poison. There are smaller browsers, but they may display things abnormally sometimes.

It seems that browsers are like bank accounts - the prospect of changing them could be a lot of bother; what with saved passwords and memorised log-ins.

I had issues with IE8 running in XP sp3 (yeah -still!) being a tad slow but I find page print outs are superior in IE than FF

I find myself viewing and downloading quite a lot of videos (mainly YouTube) but Chrome crashes with a requirement to upgrade to the latest version of Flash; I never seem to be able overcome this and go back to IE8 & FF

Maybe the latest version of FF #26, has overcome some of the issues others have mentioned? Mozilla does seem to bring out updates more often nowadays.

Anyone got any advice or improvements for my problems above are, without being too blunt, quite welcome to make suggestions

On Linux, you have fewer choices. I have used Opera for a long time, but lately, it won't run anymore on Debian jesse/sid. So now I'm stuck with Firefox, which occasionally throws fits, eats up all the memory and crashes.

Most annoying is the fact that you can't really block pop-ups in Firefox, and I hate the inability to stop sites from resizing the browser window to full screen.

I tend to experience issues with Chrome and Firefox on and off, and end up switching from one to the other quite frequently. Sometimes I'll even run both simultaneously. Especially when I'm testing browser compatibility with newly input html/php code.

I use four monitors and am running fairly efficient hardware though, so maybe using both browsers at the same time for different tasks on different monitors is justified.

Google follows your every move with Chrome records every page you visit...no thanks, i have used FF successfully since Version 3 and not looked back, never had any issues, make sure you update to latest version when it comes and otherwise keep your computer in check crashing might not be FF related also if your computer is full of spyware no matter what browser you use it will crash...

      Resurrecting old thread.

Every new release of Firefox seems to be getting more bloated and slower. It constantly freezes up for no apparent reason! Anything with a push button in the webpage as simple as even print usually don't work.

It has become almost useless with anything to do with Flash or Shockwave. I use to love it and still like it (quite a ways back it worked flawlessly., but I have to use Chrome for a lot of websites, Firefox 31 latest just would not load an HTML page but text only. It seems very temperamental.

It seem they have tried to make it more pretty than functional!

      New Motherboard
      New CPU
      New Memory
      New Power supply
      Fresh install of Firefox

Made no difference. Also same problem on other computers.

Mozilla is definitely going in the wrong direction.
