    Can't you use some of the existing plugins for that? Easy Digital Downloads has built in paypal payment gateway, and there's WooCommerce too!

      As far as downloadable products are concernt these above mentioned plugins will do the job i guess.

      for physical product (and sometimes downloadable products) i use custom payment gateways using for example Icepay of Multisafepay and a wordpres plugin provided by these companies.
