Hi everyone,
I have written an ebook just under 400 pages using 'word' it has numerous internal and external links within.
The problem I'm experiencing is that when converting to a PDF using either Adobe acrobat pro 8 or 9 with the security enabled, some of the links no longer work.
Is there a way to fix this or has anyone the know how to convert for me??
Many thanks.

Have you tried using Microsoft's "Export to PDF" extension for Word?

      Hi,
Yes I've tried creating a PDF through the word doc as well as creating a PDF straight from acrobat, and the results are the same - links not working!!

You did not specify your linking but ...
In most cases the links MUST start with the "http://"
        and not just the "www".

Are you using the FULL URL ?

        Hope this helps

I'm using the full URL's. Once the word doc is converted to a PDF all the links work - internal within the PDF and the external links, but only up to page 16, after this page the links no longer work. I have 2 versions of the ebook, a full version of 398 pages and a sample version of 31 pages.

Did you try to convert it first to HTML, and then create a PDF right from html files?

When converting files to PDF from MS-Word using Acrobat Pro...

Make sure they are working in Ms-Word!
      eg:
      1. Make sure you have no spaces in your urls.
      2. Make sure the links begin with http://
      3. Check that they are clickable (CTRL + click)

      then...

      If your links are:
      a. Plain-text links
They are made clickable, blue and underlined by the PDF reader not the converter.
If they do not click, it's a PDF reader problem. I've seen this sometimes with Foxit, use Acrobt Reader.

      b. Hyperlinks
They have text like 'Click here' and open a different url.
      These are the tricky ones.
If they are not clickable, try using the Acrobat toolbar button in MS-Word instead of the File -> Print route. Many times Windows does not send the necessary information during the File -> Print route so you have to use the Ms-Word toolbar button.

You could download Open Office, open the Word document, and try saving as PDF to see if it works. Hey, it's worth a shot - and the price is certainly right!

(no link because i don't have 15 posts... sheesh - google openoffice - it's free)

This is strange i never encountered this problem but then i never had to convert a 400 page behemoth.i think if nothing else is working there are lots of payed online services which might let you do this, why dont you contact them telling about your problem if they say yes then pay a small fee and get your job done. meanwhile there is this free tool i found here you can try this tool primopdf.
