Hackers take over profitable Facebook pages

I read this article about hackers being able to steal Facebook pages from people.

There's A Full-On Cyber War On Facebook - Business Insider

The article says one way they do it is to befriend the owner, get admin access and lock the owner out. Other than that though, in general terms how does a hacker do it?

I mean, Facebook has tons of money and smart people. Is their code that penetrable, that easy to exploit? Seems crazy to me.

Skimmed your post to quick. I would say the hackers could create exploits from the API. They build the API to give web developers more freedom to integrate and interact with Facebook data and system resources. This however can lead to unwanted usage of their system resources, users data, and accounts. Also, they deal with big data, so a hacker could possibly find holes in their data exchange programs.

The key to defense on a personal level I would say is to be careful what information you share via their web interface / domain.
