How To A Blog As A Subdomain To A Different Server

I'm moving my blog which is a sub-domain of my main website to another server. One developer says there won't be any redirects needed because the site will still be blog.example.com with the blog sub domain set up in DNS.

The potential new hosting website, Bluehost, tells me that I need to set up a new URL and redirect to the existing server and then host both on the new server. What is the proper protocol for moving a blog that is the sub domain of your website to another server?

The first person is right. You may need to find a different host.

    Hi mason44,

Have you moved the blog already or you still need any help?

Your developer is correct, but why would you have your sites on two different servers?

Also, be wary of bluehost. Almost all of my clients that are on bluehost have been hacked over the past 2 months and have dumped bluehost.

The investment club with whom I've been working this year is actually a perfect example. The owner already has a good relationship with a traditional host, and knows that moving the www site off of their (customized?) content management system would likely be a royal pain. When I started creating the back-end site for the club, I wanted (and he agreed) to use a far more robust, cloud-based hosting solution from a much higher-end host. The two sites run separately with absolutely no problems, and it's a very simple matter to use DNS to direct traffic for each sub-domain to the correct host.

What's somewhat amusing is that "my" host is far cheaper than "his" host.
