How to place downloadable files in my root folder?

Hi guys,

How do I safely place a file that I want users to download in the root folder of my Wordpress site?

For eg. http://mywebsite.com/freedownload.pdf

not

http://mywebsite.com/wp-content/uplo...eedownload.pdf

I don't actually care where the file sits - I just want a simple URL for the download.

Thanks,
-Rob Perry

You might want to consider putting am index.php file in there and have it meta redirect in "0" seconds so no one can see all the files in there and just download all the files if you plan on using that folder for multiple downloads,

Try to create a subfolder inside of your root folder and place all the downloadable files there using ftp(try filezilla). Then inside of your subfolder you can create an index file that redirects to your preferred page for security, so all files inside of your subfolders won't show up.
