Long Tail Keyword Diversity

When diversifying your long tail keywords in order to avoid exact match spam, how do you go about it?

For example, a blog about sprinting trying to rank for High Performance Sprinting with a url "www[dot]sportstuff[dot]com/high-performance-sprinting"

Are you going to change the long tail to diversify? Or are you going to simply add a variety of text before or after to diversify?

Addition Examples:

Benefits of High Performance Sprinting
Athletic High Performance Sprinting
Proper High Performance Sprinting
High Performance Sprinting for the 100m
High Performance Sprinting for Football

Alteration examples:

High Performance Sprint Training
Performance Sprinting
Athletic Sprint Training
Elite Performance Sprinting
Intense Sprint Training

What would be the most ideal direction to take on the diversity? Addition or Alteration?

Thanks.

Alter the keyword. The second example (alteration examples) is the best way to diversify your anchor text. To get the keywords you need to diversify your anchor text profile, just search for your keyword in Google keyword planner and copy the keywords that appear in the result.

Also, include generic, url, and brand anchor texts as well.

Generic anchor text = click here, more information, find out more, etc.
    URL anchor text = www.domain.com, domain.com, http...domain.com
Brand anchor text = your website's name

Hmmm. I may be wrong, but aren't both altering and adding going to do the job just fine?

In my opinion I would use both your examples (gives you more LSI)

    That is just my opinion

No, I am using full variety of anchor texts, I mean I usually use al lthe keyphrases my main competitors uses (there are hundreds of them) and additionally I use tools like keywordshitter to get additional ones. Varying those things is very important these days so this what you described is not enough it leaves too many footprings (:
