I dropped in ranking - help me figure out why

After the PBN updates none of my blogs were affected but i noticed that my competitor was using a very expensive pbn network, .ca related. I googled all his links and they are not indexed on google, like the networks has been de-indexed but how come he ranked higher than me.

I was on no 3 and now on no 4 for my keywords both related keyword. If his pbn was de-indexed why did he rank higher.

I have over 6000words homepage and he has 2500 or less. BUT I NOTICED ONE THING.

On his homepage he has just 8-10 links to his inner pages BUT i have over 30 links to my inner pages.

Can this be a good reason for my drop in ranking? Out of all my competitors i noticed they have lesser links to inner pages while i have too many links to my inner pages. I feel my inner pages are sharing the major links my homepage is suppose to benefit from alone.

Please what do you think, am happy i didnt lose to page 3 or 4, its a very good site built on high quality articles but i want to take back my spot. Please help

Thanks

You posted a shorter version of this question on another thread so I'm not gonna repeat what I typed in that thread. I'm just going to expand my response based on the new details you added.

    1. Content length is not equal to higher ranking. You can have longer content amd still rank lower than sites with shorter content.

    2. Your competitor with a seemingly deindexed PBN is probably hiding his most important links that helped his site attain his current ranking. You aren't seeing all his PBN backlinks, you are only seeing the ones he failed to hide.

    3. You need more high PR backlinks if your site doesn't return to its former position after a few days/weeks.

First of all, SEO is kind of like your credit score...

There are ALOT of factors that contribute to your rankings in search results, all of which are variables that are always changing.

Just because you dropped a couple spots in search position doesn't mean anything happened "to you". Maybe something changed in the other pages which allowed them to move to a higher position.

    My suggestion,

Add some new content to your site.

Let that new content get indexed.

Build a few more links to your site.

    See if that helps.

    Adam.

    Hi,

You have to understand a few things.

First, the content length has nothing to do with how high you'll be ranking within search engines. You need to make sure you add value to your blog so that it increases user engagement.

    Next,

If you have too many "targeted" anchor text links, it can hurt your rankings. Remember that Google is now using LSI or latent semantic indexing to better relate common phrases together. That's why it's a good idea to diversify your link building portfolio. It will also be a good idea to spread out your link building....for example...

I have several websites and post content on them regularly however 1/4 lengthy pieces of content will link to my main website. Plus, I'll only make sure that I have a maximum of "2" links pointing to "2" different pages. You need to make your sites look real which means to NOT always link out to your main website. You need to mix up the way you do things so that you're sites look legit and are providing quality.

Google is very good at following the chain of links looking for patterns in your link building. Personally, I think you're competitors have done a good job spreading their links out making things look more natural.

      1. Your offpage is more leaky than his. You're spreading link juice accross 30 internal links to his 15. So he's twice as focused.

      2. SEO Power is absolutely spot on. His "real" PBN is hidden and you have no idea what links and their power, and their anchor text, are pointing at the site above you.

Think of onpage as your steering wheel, site structure as the accelerator and offpage as the engine.

Onpage tells Google what you're relevant for, site structure channels the offpage horsepower and offpage provides the power.
