Possibly the best e-mail I've ever received.

Be sure that you read this email as it is extremely important.

Google has been de- indexing pbn's for the last few days but seems
yours has survived but i can assure you that you are in trouble if you
don't comply.

Here are few of your money sites that use pbns as links;

1) www.********************.com
I would report your blackhat seo tactics to matt cutts and his webspam
team if you don't reply to this email and send money (it could be any
amount but make sure it is more than $50)

I would give you 6 hours from now to reply to this email and comply
with my demands or you are in big trouble that would surely cost you
your entire money sites and pbn's

    What? They didn't include a payment method?

      Apparently not. I just e-mailed back offering him a free consultation, and offered to help him find the best product for him! Seems like a nice chap...

      It's OK. I did some digging. Here's my response:

      Hello,

      I just thought that I would let you know the following:

      Your IP address is: xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
      You live in: Nairobi, Kenya

      Your internet service provider is JAMBONET, a subsidiary of Telkom Kenya.

      With this in mind, and proof that you have attempted to extort myself, I am considering filing an official report with the Kenyan Police on extortion grounds.

      Let me refer you to Kenyan law:

      300. (1) Any person who, with intent to extort or gain anything from any person -
      (a) accuses or threatens to accuse any person of committing any felony or misdemeanour, or of offering or making any solicitation or threat to any person as an inducement to commit or permit the commission of any felony or misdemeanour;
      (b) threatens that any person shall be accused by any other person of any felony or misdemeanour, or of any such act;
      or
      (c) knowing the contents of the writing, causes any person to receive any writing containing any such accusation or threat as aforesaid,

      is guilty of a felony, and if the accusation or threat of accusation is of-
      (i) an offence for which the punishment of death or imprisonment for life may be inflicted;
      (ii) any of the offences defined in Chapter XV, or an attempt to commit any of such offences; or
      (iii) an assault with intent to have carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature, or an unlawful and indecent assault upon a male person; or
      (iv) a solicitation or threat offered or made to any person as an inducement to commit or permit the commission of any of the offences aforesaid,

      the offender is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years; and in any other case the offender is liable to imprisonment for three years.

      If I do not receive an official apology from yourself, I will progress with reporting this extortion to the local Nairobi Police authorities.

      You have 72-hours to reply with your apology.

      All the best,

      Well it just goes towards enforcing the idea around PBN would be makers. If a Kenyan blackmailer can see your PBN for what it is. How well did you hide it again?

            Probably some desperate western kid using some proxy's.

            Those African spammers have bigger fish to catch then 50 bucks. Read a bit about online dating lately and turns out that there are whole teams setup seducing desperate women in relative poor countries, promising to send money + golden / diamond rings but asking their victims to pay $500,- to release the package from the import department in Malaysia cause money in the package wasn't reported properly.

            Not to mention the typical Nigerian scams which are often also not executed from Nigera but from other countries abusing the poor reputation and weak systems in Nigera.

              I always have a good laugh when I receive those Nigerian email scams about them having won the lottery. I'm always tempted to string them along but never bother in the end.

    Do you really think that was their real IP and not a VPN or proxy they were using? I'll be interested if you get a response though.

      Certainly sounded like a Kenyan, based on the extortion and his use of the English language. I'll take a punt anyway and see what it brings.

        If nothing else, your responce was good for a laugh. I loved the part where they said (it could be any amount but make sure it is more than $50).

        It's obvious that they have standards.

          Lol... I missed that part.

          As if you are going to give them a tip on top of paying their ransom.

    Why bother replying to spam email?

    All your doing is telling them they have a bite, which means it's an active email, which means more spam... forever...

    These scammers are getting more and more advanced. Just got an automated call recently from "Chase" asking to verify my SSN and punch it into their system. I wonder how many poor saps fall for this kind of thing.

    Looks like a mass spam tactic. Scrape every email from every website out there, send this message, and you're bound to have plenty of them using PBN's. The fact they didn't (couldn't) call out any one of your PBN sites specifically just shows the generality of the email.

    p.s. I have just inherited $10,000,000 dollars but becuse of Nigerian law I need someone in America to help me put it in your bank. You can keep 1/2.. any takers? Just send me your bank routing number

      My sister in law - Bless her soul. Calls me one day.

      Sister:Kevin, can you help me with a western union transfer.
      Kevin: Sure, why WU. Where do you need to send it to?
      Sister: The FBI. The FBI want $140 to unlock the computer. They've locked my computer for watching CP, I also need to report my husband to the police.
      Kevin: Ok where do we start. In the beginning there was a big BANG..

      True story.

        I love the prioritization. Unlock the computer first - that's the main thing. Reporting the husband can wait.

          Calling me to pay was her priority

          Let's just say, she's one or two sandwiches short of a picnic. Same girl calls us one day to announce she's pregnant. Great news she said. But I don't know how it happened, because we did it standing up.

          That's the point of the thread really.

          There are people ever single day, going online for the very first time. Clueless and naive folk, vunerable people who get sucked into this kind of bs. That's why they keep sending out those emails and dropping those viruses.

          It's a big world.

            So if they were trying to get pregnant, did she think they should do it while standing on their head?

    This sort of crap has got to stop, shocking what some people will do. I have a feeling though most don't pay this guy a dime. Almost like the link directories extortionists that build BS links on their networks and charge for removal from each.
