Hey everyone,

I used tho hear that guest posts were important for building backlinks, but now I hear many gurus say to drop the dofollow links and do the guest post purely for getting traffic.

What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers!

If done properly then Guest blog posting is still a great way to attract targeted traffic and to build a brand name. Some of our team members still doing guest blogging and results are good, not very massive to feel cheerful, but in terms of brand promotion it’s really useful.

Matt Cutts officially declared guest blogging dead as an SEO tactic. However it is still a great way to gain exposure for your site. If you're publishing guest posts on your blog, I would definitely go the nofollow route.

Focus on publishing your guest post on high quality blog, which catches the attention of your targeted audience. Nofollow or Dofollow should not be a criteria here. Every client wants business so guest posting is great opportunity to get attention of your right audience and influence them to use your serivce/product.

Guest post is do dofollow link.
The guest post is one of the best marketing techniques, which bloggers and site owners have begun using more vehemently nowadays. It serves at least two purposes – exposure for the guest writer, and also a new post for the site or blog owner.

If you have posted your content in the relevant website and the link is Do-follow then its not an issue but if its off the topic then try to make it "No-follow.

Dofollow is more effective when we count and compare backlinks but dofollow or nofollow all are same when main target is traffic.

That's because Google penalised guest post links sometime at the beginning of the year. Despite that, backlinks from guest posts still work but you should focus on the traffic aspect and take the backlinks as side benefits.

If your purpose is SEO, try to find blogs that are allowing guest post with dofollow text link.

Firstly, guest-posting requires quite a bit of effort (if you make it right and create good content) so the initial purpose of doing that - would be to gain a somewhat valuable dofollow link. Secondly, you`d probably pick a website relevant to your niche to offer a guest-post (and vice versa, in case you allow guest-posting on your website - you`d probably accept a relevant post only). So there should be no issue to make a link dofollow, in case it leads to a relevant website.

Nofollow links from blogs/forums/comments are the ones to diversify the backlink profile and bring some traffic from topical sources. Surely, I`m not saying guest-blogging is not profitable in terms of promoting yourself and getting some visitors; however, I`d prefer the backlink from my quest-post to be dofollow, given that I would have put some time and effort into writing a worthy unique piece of content.
