As someone that did SEO a few years back, I had a big list of article websites that I used for SEO, however now, most of them are dead.

The main one I still use is Hubpages.com

What are some you use and recommend?

It's more about blogs now than article directories. So places like Tumblr are still good

I am just wondering, article posting still matters or it is considered as spam SEO.

Publishing article on your own company blog is good rather than publishing on article directories? I am asking only. As now a days I am not doing article directories.

Suggest, if someone is using this.

Do not listen to word this guy says. Article directories are dead. The reason your list is dead is because of the action that Google took on them, from practically cutting their traffic to zero with Panda to the link penalties given to those that had links on the article sites.

Article directories are in no way a linkbuilding method anymore. Just wait for Google's final death blow when the new penguin is released. Those that weren't penalized yet will be in a matter of weeks. And they'll all be singing a different tune at that time.

Agreed - I remember the days of Ezine articles. Google also does not like duplicate content.

Seekyt.com is a good article site. You will be paid through your Chitika accounts for the Ads that appear on your articles. You may earn revenue from your Google Adsense account through the Ads that are displayed on your Seekyt articles. Seekyt also has a good program where your articles are automatically linked with VigLink's products. Anyone who buys a product through your link, you will earn commission.
Above all, Seekyt allows you to insert a link to your website or blog on your resource box. Therefore, visitors to your articles may be redirected to your website.
The key thing about article submission is that you need to promote them as hard as you write them. When you promote your articles, you will see a significant amount of traffic.

Squidoo has gone, it's now owned by Hubpages.

I still get traffic from Ezine articles & Hubpages from articles that were published 4 years ago.

      Cheers

Well, if you are for quality then go for ezinearticles and goarticles. The rest I'm not sure.
People say, article directory is dead, SEO is dead, this and that etc.
Really, nothing is certain, we just need to adapt and improve. Those site's mentioned will never be down because they know what quality is, they became authority for a reason.

HubPages might be the best one right now. I say "right now" because many of them have fallen by the wayside in the past few years while some have gotten very unreliable. It is much better to have your own website because you do not know for how long any of these sites will be around. Squidoo was one of the top ones but HubPages acquired it. That should tell us how uncertain things are now and that we should not put all our eggs in one basket (or other people's baskets for that matter).

It is good to get the free Chrome extentension SeoQuake. It has a "Check url" feature where you can paste a host of urls into the box and see which sites (e.g revenue sharing sites and article directories) are doing well right now. Monitor the situation by doing this periodically and you will be reliably informed as to whether these sites are improving or whether their fortunes are falling drastically. It is a time saver as it gives you the current Alexa rank of the sites as well as many other details.

I would recommend you Goarticles, articlebase, Ezinearticle and Tumblr. They are good article submission websites and can help in driving traffic to your website. Moreover, for posting content you can also use blog posting strategy. This can also prove useful for your business.

Hubpages will provide a do follow backlink so long as your hub score is 75 and up.

As for other article directories to link from, there are not many that provide any SEO benefit.

Welcome back, a lot has changed

Don't bother posting to any of the sites being listed here. Publish content worth sharing on your site while leveraging existing platforms where your target market hangs out already. If you're building links that you never intend to get a visitor from, they're probably not links worth building.
