Buying a text link - how much for a PR6?

Hi folks,

I know some of you are selling/buying links on daily basis. I currently have a chance to get a link to a "legit" PR6 page.

I know PR6 doesn't mean much nowadays, but perhaps those metrics can help a bit to evaluate the link value:

So, let's imagine that the site domain URL is blabla.com and the place where I would like to get a link is blabla.com/relevant-to-my-site
  • blabla.com is PR6 (3600 referring domains, DA77, PA81)
  • blabla.com/relevant-to-my-site is also PR6 (70 referring domains + truckloads of internal links from the site itself, PA66)

On a side note, the site itself gets approx. 100,000 unique visitors per month, the page where I would like to put my link get's approx. 10,000 unique visitors per month. So there's definitely a some sort of traffic value as well.

How much would you pay for a link on blabla.com/relevant-to-my-site ?

Any suggestions/opinions are more than welcome.

Start with looking at the number of OBL and based on that and ofher factors as likelyness they would click on it you can estimate the amount of traffic that would give you on monthly base.

Take the math from there I would say.

About 1.5 year ago I bought a PR6 domain myself, with PA65 if I remember correctly, I set it to max 10-15 OBL and charged $200/link, one time fee. The site hardly got any useful traffic though. Purely looking at the strength of such link I suppose it's a fair price to start with.

Every site owner has their price, $200 seems to be a fair amount. Is it do-follow too?

    It's do-follow. The OBL is around 20-25.

To me it kind of depends on the niche. Someone with an insurance site would never sell a link like that for $200. You might be looking at something more like $2000.

Someone with a site about computer programming might sell it for around $200. Really though, I cannot imagine many niches where someone is going to give a permanent link on a page like that for $200. Well, if they know what they are doing anyhow.

It is really tough to say. Also depends on the link type and location. I know you said it is a text link, but is that a text link at the top of the page, in the footer, somewhere else?

I would not worry too much about the OBL as much as I would about the location of where the link will be placed. Links higher on the page have more SEO value, but also are more likely to get some direct traffic.

      It's inside an article/post.

I also got a quote from him. He was looking for $90 per month OR $1600 lifetime.
I'll think about it, especially because of the traffic that might even convert into sales.
      Will see.

      Thanks for the thoughts.

Is he offering you any kind of insight to that traffic? Is it search engine traffic, social media, bought, etc.? That would play a role into the decision for me too.

I think I would see if he is willing to do the $90 per month for a few months with the option to upgrade to the lifetime option. That way you can get a good gauge of what kind of direct traffic it will bring in.

Usually, unless the permanent link price is less than what the monthly price would add up to in a year (in this example $90 x 12 = $1080), I'm hesitant to buy the permanent link. A lot can change in a year or two.

Probably take the link for a time and see the traffic.

Just me but I would never buy a "permanent" link for more than a few hundred dollars. The only link you can say is permanent is the one on the site you own.
