DigitalOcean + EasyEngine = 200ms site loads..

I'm experimenting with VPS's as I want to move away from shared hosts..

Booted up a $5 Droplet on DigitalOcean, and followed the installation guide of EasyEngine - a NGINX installer that sets up new WordPress sites on the fly with WP Super Cache or W3 already installed/configured.

I'm getting loading times of 200ms from Pingdom, and the bulk of that is from loading external resources from Google Font's etc. The homepage is actually loading quicker than Google.com - coming in at a whopping 9MS.

For $5, which includes an SSD, I have to beg the question, why are people still using shared hosting?

Fair enough, it's all down to you to set it up and update - but that's where teaching yourself comes in handy, right?

I've been a huge fan of DO for over a year now.

Best part, no cpanel and an expected level of competency = Newbie Free servers.

The whole backup/droplet system is fantastic. The instant deployment makes snap testing a joy...

It's just a solid host but it's not going to work for 98% of marketers... thankfully

Have to admit, yesterday was the first time I'd even touched a VPS / Linux. By today, I've got a fully functional site, loading blazingly quick and boasting 200ms loading times.

Not to mention, the WP-ADMIN pages load furiously fast - like instantly. I'm usually sitting around for a few seconds.

Better still, DO lets you scale up the Cores/RAM on the fly with a touch of a button - and it's dirt cheap. Talk about having no growing pains!

I've just said good bye to shared hosting 8-)

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

I wouldn't use Google Fonts for your PBN...

      Thanks for the share

Just wondering how it compares to something like A2hosting with SSD or Cloudflare from Site5 where I think you mentioned you got 500-600ms loading times.

I understand the benefit of 200-500ms vs 2-3 seconds in terms of rankings and conversions but what's the benefit of 200ms vs 500ms really?

It's also about price. DO costs $5-$10 for a server that will handle affiliate sites. Site5 charge $25 for cloud hosting.

So you're paying more to receive less power. All you get with Site5 is a nice fancy Cpanel and a Live Chat button.

Now you know why I laugh at guys who defend places like hostgator or godaddy.

    I use DO and serverpilot.

My sites are fast loading and I couldn't fault them up to now.
