Why did I get slapped by google?

Hello!

I'm running an adult website and I was doing good on semi-important keywords but this morning I noticed that I disappeared from Google with those keywords.

The organic searches was going really steady for at-least 2 months now.

Is this normal for Penguin 3.0?

- Domain (website) is online since January
- No bought backlinks

In Google's defense, I DO need to update my h1,h2,.. tags.

Just

My advice is don't change anything on existing pages that previously ranked, a lot of times Google makes updates & eventually the pages bounce back in the SERPs. If you do anything, build additional webpages on the same domain with unique page titles targeting the same keyword with fresh backlinks pointing at the new page/s.

In your past experience how long can it take before a site or pages that were highly ranking can bounce back?

Never happened to all keywords at once, one keyword here and there or a handful of keywords at once, but not all of them at once.

The time to get back varied... 3 to 10 days. Sometimes, when I got back, I got back a spot or two higher... Was #6, disappeared, reappeared at #4, for instance.

Once, long ago, I had one that happened several times over 2 months, Google kept bouncing me from #6 to #162 to #6 to #162 #6 to #162. In the end, it decided to put me at #2. Took 1 or 2 days to bounce back to #6 every time.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

This probably is unlikely but maybe a competitor was negative SEO'ing your site?

If you are ranking well never assume your competitors aren't up to sneaky tactics.

I'd check your links, even though you claim you didn't buy any links.

Do you have multiple websites ? Most of the time is related to people thinking it's ok to interlink spam between their own sites.

First of all, thanks A LOT for all of the replies, I appreciate this.

Sucks that my earnings of that website almost halfed because of that Google stunt, even though my website has amazing and HD content compared to my competitors I'm disappointing in Google for throwing me out like that.

I see.. Well for now I have fixed the h1 and h2 tags in my page. Since my headers weren't even using the h1 tag (woops)

I'll check this out today. Which tool do you recommend doing this? Been trying to find one that has a nice interface.

Checked my backlinks using google webmaster tools and most of the backlinks are from my other own websites (my banners).

      Update

Wanted to post a new update regarding my slap.

I'm still not seeing any light of the end of the tunnel. I had high hopes for the site and it was climbing beautifully.

      Since my slap I've:
Hired a team that deleted bad backlinks (March)
Fixed a tons of URLS to SEO friendly (April)
Redesigned my site in bootstrap (May)
      Changed to SSL (June)
And am now posting news from time to time

And nothing changed at all, not even a little.

This is the link to my site

All help and even paid help is appreciated a ton. I have lots of fun managing this site, but it feels useless if nobody is visiting it.

      Regards,
      Applepiee
