How did you learned Seo? Which websites did you followed, and how long it took you to rank first on Google?

Trial & error mainly, the best way to learn is to actually try stuff out.

You can learn a fair bit right here but you have to be very selective as to whose advice you trust. There's a fair amount of bad advice around and many self labelled 'SEO Gurus' are completely untrustworthy.

      This.

If you will follow the footsteps of someone else, you might get lost. There is no single best way to do SEO.

There will be people who will tell you that using linkbuilding software programs is the best way SEO, and guess what, it works for them. They will show you proofs. The fact is, it really works for them because they have invested years of testing and tweaking. They know all the ups and downs of using such tools.

On the other hand, there will be people who will tell you that manual SEO is what you need to do. Fine. If you will follow their guidelines, you might not see any results. But the fact is, same manual work works best for a lot of people, just because they have invested time.

The conclusion is you do need to read about SEO, there is no harm in buying/using courses and automation tools, the thing that really matters is how you learn to use just any tool for best results. This learning derives from experience, testing and tweaking.

      Best,
      George

I'm quite a newby considering SEO knowledge but one thing I have learned is that you should first understand what SEO is, what it means, how it behaves and stuff like that -- before jumping to how to make it happen with advanced techniques and so on.

    Understand it first.

I recommend you read as much as possible, there's a ton of information out there. And don't just read, actually take notes of key points and action steps, this will help you digest the information. Once you've done spent sufficient amount of time ask targeted questions, as general questions will get general answers. And by "sufficient amount of time" I spent around 1 month just reading, then asked loads of questions on forums and experts and then continues for another few months reading and I still continue reading after 5 years.

I'm actually creating a blog teaching small businesses and entrepreneurs how to market online and will be kicking things off with a series on the basics of SEO.

Falling & standing up, multiple times, still learning every day!

When you're known with the expired domain auctions and such and have the budget then SEO is really not that difficult at all. Just a bit expensive.

I started with the Wealthy Affiliate University (wealthyaffiliate.com) and paid for several months of membership. During my training there, I learnt a lot, but I wasn't satisfied with their SEO tutorials so I cancelled my membership. I continued learning through free articles on blogs, forum threads, and 'experience'.

at beginning google launched short-simple manual about SEO, but today SEO is a little more complicated (Have you heard "Tiered linking"?). I learned SEO from both Indonesian and American SEO experts by E-books. the last time I learned SEO was when i bought a SEO software, the Developer gave me SEO course, to be honest the course was EQUAL TO many books I bought.

It surprising how quickly it can be learn't through just reading guides on the net.

Great to see when you get 1st page of keywords in a matter of weeks

It feels like your leveling up

What annoys me is that there is not just one source that has all the relevant information
