Ranking without backlinks

Hi there, I run a couple of websites in new niches and with one of them, I have a pretty good rank on Google which I'd like to improve or at least have it stay where it is now. The thing is, there is no way any blogger will want to link to my website, there is no way people would want to let me guest post with my content.

It's the nature of the niche, I don't want to get into details but there is no logical reason why anyone would blog about this.

So, what is there to do? I'm sure 99% of my competitors will not have HQ links either, what is the second most important thing I can do to SEO my websites?

What I did so far was to write extensive, high-quality related content and I publish new posts 2-3 times a week. I connected my site, my videos with social networks including Facebook and Google+. I have shared my YouTube videos with each and promoted it where it was natural.

I heard going to articles directories is a dead end so I'm staying away from that, can anyone recommend the next step?

All I can come up with is to keep publishing new articles and try and get more popularity on social networks. The only thing I'm currently deciding whether I should do is to compete with myself; create a new website, same niche but different style, different accounts different everything just to spread my influence even more and have a second source of traffic.

I am motivated, I am patient and I am capable, please advise me.

Thanks!

Build a second site on a domain that already has backlinks, you can find such in auctions, then link back to your main site. Rinse and repeat a dozen or so times and you'll definitely see your rankings improving further.

Obvious it doesn't have to be a full fledged site.

Does this domain have to be previously-associated with the niche I am in? Does the content have to be related or literally any random domain with backlinks?

I'm wondering about that even though I doubt I'd be able to afford such a thing, those domains probably go for hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Thank you for your suggestion tho, I appreciate it!

No it does not but it sure looks more natural so less risky really.

I've had crappy sites go through a manual review and they survived it simply cause the content matched with the domain name and the anchor profile. Those manual reviewers are satisfied rather quickly.

However when it doesn't match at all I'm not so sure. One thing you can do of course is take domains with generic names or real people's names, that way it can still be about anything, quite different then realtorinnewyork.com when you want to rank a dentist site.

Relevant domains are often hard to find though, especially ones with decent link juice but what you could do is buy relevant domains and buy irrelevant high PR domains and use these irrelevant high PR ones to drive juice to the relevant ones, and from there to your money site. That would be a pretty solid strategy.

Yes... You can rank your website without Backlinks, but you can not ignore it. Because your each section and pages linked to each other. That is also count as Internal Backlinks. Internal Backlinks are very useful to increase PageViews and Avg. Visit on Website.

Quality Content always help to build your website's authority and gives your better ranking in Search Engines. So believe to post quality content.

I see, well internal linking isn't a problem, I've studied ON-Page SEO a lot so I think I got that covered.

Also all of my content is written by me, I'm pretty sure its "high quality".

    Hi there!

Ranking in search engines helps in driving traffic but it is not everything. Social media networks and direct relationship building are as important as rankings. In every niche, you can find blogs and people who wants to feature your articles. If your niche is very weird such that no one is willing to blog about it then it is surely not a niche that can get you profits. It would be really helpful if you can share your niche here with all the details so we can help you better.

As you were too general in your post, i am not so sure how much of marketing you did. In short though you need the following:

    [ Part 1 - The Obvious Stuff ]

    1. High Quality Content.
    2. Impressive Attractive Website Design.
    3. Speed - Your whole site must load up in less than 3 seconds.
    4. Security - Make sure all your pages, dashboard and server are properly secured.
    5. On-Page Optimization: All your pages must be optimized.

    [ Part 2 - Link Building ]

Relying on those links that comes naturally to your blog because of your quality content can be a time consuming task - and sometimes it does not work even. A better approach is for you to give a push at the start then let it go naturally on its own. Building links is a big topic but mostly every niche has its own unique ways of getting quality links. The common techniques tells you to keep everything diversified, natural and of high quality. It is always advised as well to get your links from relevant websites. In addition to that, keep in mind that it is about quality not quantity.

It is also recommended to stay away from automated link building programs, cheap Fiverr link packages and stuff like that. Building a private blog network still works well as long as you take care of it. Hiring reputable SEO agencies also tend to help at the start of your campaign if you have the right budget for that. Check the end of this post for free tutorials if you are new to link building.

    [ Part 3 - Social Media Marketing ]

If you are doing social media marketing properly, it works on its own without even thinking about Google. I have seen so many businesses relying solely on SMM and generating great profits every month. Among all social networks and media sites, focus on the following:

Facebook Ads: Publish Facebook ads regularly and optimize them based on your niche.
Google+ Marketing: Building a group, a business page and engage with your fans.
Twitter Marketing: Tweet regularly your quality content and use proper relevant hash tags.
Youtube Marketing: Publish videos and optimize them properly.

    [ Part 4 - Buying Ads ]

Although this sounds like an old technique, but getting your ad published around really help in driving traffic as long as your ad is published on a reputable authority and popular website. Google ads, Bing ads, ads on popular websites all help in driving traffic. Just keep in mind that the more the relevant the site is the better. Stay away from suspicious sites and those websites of low quality including web directories.

Those are the basics mainly. If you can share with us more details about your niche, that will help us in writing a better feedback for you.

[ The Answers To Your Questions ]

Q1). What is the second most important thing to do after getting quality links?
A1). Focus on social media marketing, it is truly amazing and gets you real results.

Q2). I heard going to articles directories is a dead end so I'm staying away from that, can anyone recommend the next step?
A2). Article directories does not help much anymore in terms of rankings. However, they do help if the published articles get some direct traffic. Remember that marketing is not just about links and rankings. The next step, is to focus on SMM and continue what you are doing. It really takes long time to get a good level of authority. So stay patient.

Q3). Is building multiple websites considered a helpful process?
A3). I would not recommend you to jump and build so many websites in the same niche. Try to focus on one, building relations, increase its authority and it will work out. Building multiple sites require lots of work and a big team to work with you if you want to keep a high level of quality content around.

It's the usual India spammers, ignore them.

        ************************************************** **

Since you say the niche won't generate organic links my advise for the OP is to build buffer sites that are niche related & use those to help generate links.

        Example link flow:
        • Backlink page > Related buffer site/page > Money site/page

Example, If your in the gaming niche build small buffer sites related to the financial niche which opens the doors to tons of relevant niche domains. Gaming is related to money, money is related to financial, there's your connection between all the backlink domains & money pages.

This is an interesting idea. However, would it be ok if the backlink page was tightly gamer related as well? Even the same niche maybe? Maybe a "gaming news" blog and the link to my specific-game content.

Is there any way linking from self-created, NEW blogs can hurt my rank of the original blog?

          Thanks!

Sure it helps to keep linked pages themed.

Are you talking about gaming (casino) or gaming (video games)? The reason I ask is video games would probably be easier to get organic links.

My advise is build all of your sites out with real content for traffic then use those pages to help rank your money pages.

Since your talking about video games you shouldn't have any problems generating organic links directly to the money page/domain, plenty of gamers out there to work with, the video game niche is huge.

Look into SEO silo site structure for theming groups of relevant internal pages. I've covered this on a lot of older forum threads here on the Warrior Forum SEO sub-forum.

Assuming it's just the gaming field, there is really limited risk of hurting yourself in building a second site on an expired domain (with backlinks already existing).

If there's something a little sketchy about topic then build a buffer page per Yukon) although that's more work.

There's plenty of reading about finding expired domains on WF and even more people looking to sell you them either as empty domains or as a PBN.

PBN links available: Many niches & each domain only has 10 OBL.

When I mentioned buffer sites I thought OP was talking about gaming as in casinos.

The video game niche should be easy to build decent links that will last for years, even organic links If the money site/page isn't spammy.

Reach out to blogs in niches related to yours. Tell them about your content and request for links. If there are no blogs in related niches, you may have to build the backlinks you need to rank yourself. Start with web 2.0 links and build a PBN if you can afford it.

Unfortunately, no matter what anyone tells you, you cannot rank well without backlinks. Backlinks are still that important in the algorithm.

That's fine, but please consider the following again:

I am currently ranked #1 on Google, competition is coming but they will also have no good backlinks and neither will I.

You didn't mention that you were ranked No. 1 in your opening post. Also, last I checked, No. 1 wasn't "pretty good".

if you are into gaming and however obsure that niche is. I'm sure somewhere there is a community for it. Try some of those forums on gaming and create a backlink from there. As long as it is related, it's fine. You can also build your own following in that forum easily, since your niche is very obsure and direct traffic from the forum to your site.

There's very little on the web that you really can't find any way to generate a decent looking backlink to.

Amazon is e-Commerce and have millions of backlinks, many from marketers like us who link to specific product pages regularly.

Don't out your niche, this is more of a rhetorical question...but what on earth do you have, that people would search for (hence the need for SEO and ranking) that nobody would ever write about it or put a link to it?

Don't out your niche, this is more of a rhetorical question...but what on earth do you have, that people would search for (hence the need for SEO and ranking) that nobody would ever write about it or put a link to it?
Most people who write about this specifically write to profit from it like I do, so obviously those people wouldn't help me get their traffic.

The other gaming bloggers in general do not want to have to deal with this type of content at all.

If nobody will give you backlinks you have to create them yourself. Ranking without links can work if there really is no competition. I have an Amazon site in a somewhat weird niche that has about 20 page one rankings without a single backlink. Many of them are even number #1 because nobody is targeting those terms. Works great. Downside is of course that there is not much traffic and the site hardly makes 50 bucks per month - not worth the initial effort put into it at all.

PBNs are still the way to go if you want to build links yourself, even after Google's hit. There was most likely a lot of manual action involved, so it was not algo based. As long as it's not algo based the average Joe who only runs a small, well covered network will most likely be perfectly safe because there are much bigger fish to catch for big G.

There are lots of courses out there on how to do that as well as tons of free info. I'd recommend to dig into that and to start a small network.

Thank you for your suggestion Volcano, yeah there's little to no competition for my keywords however they'll probably show up soon.

I have no idea whats a PBN or how would a personal network of..blogs(?) look like, but I will put some research into it and hopefully figure it out.

Thanks for the suggestion again, much appreciated!

I'm running a free blog so no plugins, there's no plugin info in your signature and also your post looks like another cheap ad.

I suggest you to create good quality articles and then publish them in Hubpage, Blogger, Wordpress.com, etc. sites. And link your site using your keywords with those posts.

You should use different IP for creating different posts, it will help you achieving your target.

Thank you all for your input once again, this thread has really motivated me to continue working further.

Anyways, wanted to show you guys my site stats since I started blogging, lets hope the traffic keeps increasing like this, right?

Once again I have not made any effort into backlinking, all I've done was made a youtube video, create social network profiles (google+,facebook, stumbleupon and pinterest); and that's it.

Here's a screenshot of traffic sources for comparison:

As you can see most of the traffic is coming from search engines ~ 80% Google and the second best traffic source is Youtube, I haven't a clue about the other sources expect the ismysiteindexed and social networks you see listed.

Also be aware that most of the YT traffic is thanks to the video being ranked well on Google search as well, there are hundreds of videos on youtube with the same niche I am in.

There are about 10,500 search results on Google for my main keyword and 1-3k for 'secondary' keywords.
