There are a lot of people saying Google "Hates Affiliates" and it will penalize your affiliate site, even if it is good. Why then is it that that this site ranks so highly in Google?

Money Saving Expert: Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more

It ranks number one in the UK for a scores of high value, very competitive keywords like : "save money".

It is a purely an affiliate site, with it's affiliate links even being marked with an * to inform the visitor that it is an affiliate link. It is not "cloaking", "redirecting", "hiding links from google bots", or any of the other tricks. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Yes! Absolutely There is a misconception about the affiliate sites. Google actually doesn't hate the affiliate, It hates the way people made it. Google hate duplicate, spammy and low quality content. If you have written a killer review about the products and services then it will help you to gain the trust of Google and also help you to rank better.

It's because people with crappy sites and even crappier spun or barely coherent English content, filled with article directory and forum sig links can't rank...

They blame it on having open affiliate links.

People with bad sites won't rank - but nobody ever seems to think their own site sucks.

You know nothing. 95% of affiliate sites have been penalized and the rest is going to be penalized sooner or later.

The problem with affiliates sites is not only the duplicate content. It' s the nature of the sites. They tend to send people to other sites so they can' t build engagement with users. And google panda do rank sites with great engagement.

If you are building an affiliate site try to engage your members as much as possible. Otherwise google penalty can' t be avoided.

        BULLSH*T!

        You know nothing.

Moneysupermarket, GoCompare and Comparethemarket are HUGE brands that engage with their audiences.

Whenever I want to compare car insurance, I visit all three of them and check quotes insanely fast. I don't go to mainstream insurers anymore - just visit those three, find the cheapest and buy it.

When I need a food processor, I don't remember your crappy affiliate site because there's no branding, no authority, no engagement - nothing. You're just a site that sends me through to Amazon and expects me to buy it.

There are "good" affiliate websites and "crappy" affiliate websites.

Unfortunately most IMers complaining have websites that fall into the latter.

These two hit the nail on the head.

Its not that affiliate sites are bad, hell Adsense publishers are affiliate sites.

Its the quality of the sites and the time that is put into them to ensure that the reader finds what they are looking for. If your just copy/pasting content onto to your site and building spammy backlinks for a quick buck, then yeah they are going to get penalized eventually.

The only people saying that are those with affiliate sites that got affected by the Panda or Penguin algorithms because either they had crap content or crap backlinks.

That is an authority site in the finance niche therefore it will rank well and won't get penalised even with affiliate links. However, your small 10-page affiliate site won't enjoy such lenience as it will get booted out during one of Google's algo updates.

This pretty much sums it up.

Large authority sites get away with whatever they want to get away with.

Small marketeers need to be careful not to over monetize and fit some other criteria to be able to rank well.

I have couple of 10-30pages "affiliate sites". They have been ranking really well for the past 2 years. They have survived every Penguin update/refresh, every Panda update etc. TBH I don't think the size matters much.

At the end of the day it's all about the links. If you have good links - you will stay at the top. Panda is really easy to overcome and doesn't affect vast majority of sites - only the crappy ones. But then again, I spent approx $10k on content for those "mini affiliate sites".

This infographic highlights how affiliates went from being well loved by Google to being viewed as unneeded noise & duplication in the marketplace. from #seobook

Google hates thin affiliate sites, not affiliate sites in general. And, funny how removing just one tiny word miscontrues the truth.

You can read it for yourself.

The only affiliate sites that are in trouble are the ones that are copy/paste clones, taking most of their content from the original product site with no original/unique content of their own.

And, as you can see, on that link you provided, there are many useful articles that provide usable content to the site visitor. You can't say that for all affiliate sites.

Google doesn't hate Affiliate sites it just hate the Duplication, spamming and low content then Google blocks them or consider as spam other than that Google just give the top ranking to the Affiliate sites.
