    From writing perspective, yes. You have to do it smartly.

    From backlinking perspective, not at all.

    Writing for keywords is dead.

    All you have to do is continue to write gibberish about any content you want (preferably porn, pharma, and gambling) and you will rank for whatever keyword your brain imagines, even if it never appears on your page.

    Google is smart enough now to know what you're thinking without even having to guess what keyword you want.

    The more pages you have indexed, the better.

    Write only 200 word articles, but write like 1,000 of them. Poor grammar and lack of proper English will actually help, since Google will now see that you're just a poor dude living at home trying to make a living and push your site up above all the corporations because they have enough money already.

    Quickest route to rank for keywords (likley on lsi) is to create a video then link to it from Google+, Blogger, and other social sites (but the aforementioned generating the strong signals). Now depending on your intent and use of your keywords, you can check into Fiverr to generate to backlinks etc.

    Keyword research is bread and butter stuff... Seriously how can you do IM if you don't even do this essential task of ascertaining commercial viability, assessment of competition on target keywords and a plan of implementation - normally going through long tail to root keywords... ???

    Boy oh boy! This is such essential stuff... With on page and off page seo it all still fits in... Only difference now and a few years back is the velocity, density and profile factors which have changed... Seriously if you don't do it... then I would say you run very high risk of commencing projects which are doomed to fail from the onset...

    Focus on the quality of your content above all. Keywords optimization helps a bit in your rankings but not to a degree than you need to worry about it.

    Simply write high quality content with proper headlines, titles, images, videos and infographics. That is more important than thinking about your keywords optimization and density.

    Speaking link building, your backlinks must be diversified, natural and comes from high quality relevant websites.
