Is SEO Being Replaced by SMO?

A striking post by Dan Graziano reveals that a Google search may display only 13% organic results; "the rest is ads and junk". Also a recent Forrester report on how consumers found websites in 2012 shows that social media is catching up with search, accounting for 32% of discoveries versus 54% for search, up from 25% in 2011.
Although SEO can't be counted out just yet,
it appears that social media optimization (SMO) will eventually surpass it,
and may become the primary source of traffic. However, what will this mean for Google in the long run?
Search engine result pages full of ads, social profiles and facebook pages?

    As SEO works in real update of site, whether it works on social media site, as it consider half of the on social; media site popular Facebook, it become most enhance and higher rated traffic site, in order to update daily basis of ads, picture, article and so on.So SEO is most properly replaced by SMO.

    Yawn. That article was posted over a year ago.

    And with some digging, was found that the 13% was in visual space above the fold on a smaller laptop and likely in a resolution that meant smaller screens.

    It's not so much that the results were crap, but that between google ads, and the right hand side of the results (which I don't think EVER contained organic results, but things like maps, the knowledge box, and more ads) took up real estate.

    Since that right sidebar never contained (and probably never WOULD contain) organic results, the 13% number is pretty well "made up".

    If you compare the area that actual results come up organic vs paid, yeah - it's more like 50% of "potential" results real estate.


    TL;DR: old article, artificial stats, nothing new.
