Country Specific TLDs for E-commerce Venture

Working on a decade old .com e-commerce venture and we are considering creating .co.uk, .ca and .com.au versions of the site.
1. What is the right way to do this (specially if we want to divert the UK/Canada/Australia traffic from the primary .com site to the .co.uk, .ca and .com.au sites?
2. For now, the client does not want to invest in creating unique content for each of the country specific TLD (ccTLD). What are the pros and cons of this?
