Do you think it is time to start anew or keep fixing backlinks?

Personally I have a feeling Penguin might become more like Panda with regular updates but it is hard to say for sure.

As always, build a new webpage & point fresh quality links at the new webpage. Either it ranks or it doesn't.

Use an easy same niche keyword while testing, that way competition isn't a factor. If the page ranks, target your regular keywords with new internal pages & more quality links.

Unless you control the old junk links odds are removing the links isn't an option.

Do you think it would be have safe to have two sites on the same niche run from the same ip address?

    Would g00gle not care?

My current site is a brand so I don't want to ditch it just yet, I also have had luck removing a number of links in the past week by digging into whois information on links pointed to the site.

That's fine, running multiple money sites on the same host targeting the same niche.

Thanks. I'm gonna consider opening a second site. An issue I can see is looking into links for both sites but I'm also curious if a site wth minimal (but quality) links may be able to rank too so it could be interesting to try out.

Run your site on Nginx with HHVM and Amazon AWS multi-node clusters - Google loves them and HHVM is enterprise grade (Facebook) - skips all the drama with manual seo. Slow & steady - nonsense these days - high growth and high efficiency - that what's the corporates do and Google is one of them - you'll just be fodder otherwise.

Was your site hit by last year's penguin update or this year's? If it's the former and your still hasn't recovered, it'd be better to start over rather than to keep trying to remove a penalty you might never succeed in removing.

It was last years. It is frustrating to start over but that may be the way to go since g00gles algorithm is acting like garbage A lot of people online also seem to be saying recovery isn't helping.

The only thing is if they actually end up updating it again in the next tow or three months it could be worth it to stay the course cause I've had luck removing a lot of links this past week or two and someone also found 500 plus domains to add to disavow file as well as putting onto all 4 versions of my website - including https, http, www, and https//www

Stick with it. Penguin recovery all comes down to link cleanup. I did it and recovered my rankings after this last update so it is possible. Good news is Google will refresh Penguin at faster intervals.

Thanks. I've now put some energy into actually removing links since disavowing doesn't seem to be enough. Hopefully Google really does start to update Penguin more regularly than in the past like Panda.
