Local Targeting with Adsense - Can I do this?

If you have a niche site and you know a local business in your area uses Adwords (a friend works in their ad department and you overhear him saying so).
Can you 'make' their adwords ad appear on a page of your website?

Say, you are teaching kids about art and the company is a art supplies company, to pick a possible example.

I heard they had some type of geo targeting possible but changed its name.
Is this type of local/geo targeting still possible?

Thanks

I would not chance it. In another city maybe. How large is your city? NYC?

I don't understand the 'would not chance it' caution. Is it considered black hat or a violation of terms?

If I was doing a review of one of their products then if there was an ad on that page for the item, then the reader could go and buy it, be happy, and come back to my site for more reviews.

The keywords would be product specific not general.
There are only about 40,000 to 60,000 population, not counting summer tourists .

      Thanks

You can try (experiment with a sandbox ad unit) but they may or may not be running on the content network and you may or may not be able to figure out the keywords they're using anyway. Why would you want to?

    Hi new2ebiz
Local targeting is not a great idea I think if you are using Google Adsense. As Google use PPC so it's always seen that PPC rate is always better in outside of your region than local.
What ever it is yea this possible to target any region. You have to invest some or you can change your code of website or blog by geo locator php code.
    Hope for the best

      Hi new2ebiz,

As an AdSense publisher you have no control over an AdWords advertiser's ad placements, that is totally under their control. All you can do is build the kind of content that they might want to advertise on.

All AdWords advertisers will have an equal opportunity to bid on your ad space, the highest bidders will win the available spots. You can however contact them directly and offer to sell advertising space, and you won't have to share the revenue with Google.

My comment "would not chance it" means I would not do it on a site that could be used in a local market in my physical area. For instance, I know foir a fact that I could hit #1 for a search term using my local city. Do I want to risk having a 1,000 or so potential local clicks? It is tempting but not worth getting caught.

I have already been down that road trying justify to G about letting me keep my account. So no I would not create the possiblity of having G think that I was related to that site in my local area.

That's why we are not allowed to get friends to click on your links. It's a TOS thing.

    Anyway, that's me.

Sure you can do anything if you want..........but why limit the amount of money you make. Adsense is really only a supplement way to earn extra money online, unless you own a Meg Huge Web site.
