I am using word press and I just discovered that the theme I am using has the exact same h1 tag and site description on every single page.

Is this normal with all word press themes?

How can I change it so that the h1 tag is the same as the individual page title and the description is unique to each page?

Can you have two h1 tags - one h1 tag for the site and one h1 tag for the individual page?

Do I need to find a new word press theme?

Thanks!

No, you need to ditch WP, find a better CMS or go out and
learn about html and such things.

Many sites use the same stuff. If you get traffic yourself, and
have adsense, it's not a bad way.

I actually do both ways. Depends on the site.

You can have two h1's, or as many as you like.

Sitewide would mean it's on each page. You could do another
    for each page.

Most people don't, because they do stuff for google, thinking that
google is going to get mixed up. Google looks for certain things.
h1 is one part, but not the end all.

On sites that I use the same h1, I use a unique h2. But I want that
same h1. It's the topic of the site and I want it front and center.
I use the same title and description. I'm not worried about google.
I want a click on an ad, and I need that adsensebot zeroed in.

    Thanks for the responses.

I have been researching this issue this afternoon and found an article titled "The Truth About Multiple H1 Tags in the HTML5 Era" at webdesign.tutsplus.com.

Basically, pre-HTML5, you could have only one h1 tag per page. Post-HTML5, you can have several h1 tags and it will not hurt seo. In fact, several h1 tags on a page may actually help with seo. Check out the article.

Install an SEO plugin and you will be able to specify individual titles for each page and consequently for search engines. I recommend "all in one seo pack" or "WordPress SEO".
