Hello Warriors,
1- When we say "check for competitor's SEO" what do you actually do?
I'd like to share my strategy and see what everyone else is doing.
I personally :
- Check the amount of backlinks of the website (I use semrush+ashref).
- Check the traffic (an estimate amount of traffic).
- Check with what keywords they are ranked.
- Check if they have a "silo architechture".

2- After having found out how's the competition, what do you actually do to beat it?

Thank you in advance for the answers.
Kind Regards
Andrea

You have to FIRST see if you can beat your competitor or should you move on to another keyword phrase

There is a lot more to your question. If all the top 10 domains have high page ranks and they are 4 to 6 years old, you may want to select another keyword phrase

What could be considered an "high page rank"?

If the PR amount of actual pages that showed on #1 page SERP more than 30, I will move on to another keywords. It's hard competitions.

It's helpful to first separate real competition from other people doing stuff nearby (what most people consider competition really isn't competition at all. It's only actual competition if the business in question knows what they are doing). Then, build a detailed profile of the real competition to asses what it will take to beat them. Sometimes, just a quick glance makes it clear there is lower-hanging fruit elsewhere. Other times, it may be worth evaluating it in further detail before making a decision.

I personally use SEO Profiler and Market Samurai to track my competitors. All I do from the information i get is build high quality links from sites which are used by my competitor. Also look into on page optimization to fine tune the quality of my page. I also look into links from sites like YouTube to add in more value and traffic.

These are some great questions and you're making some smart moves when you check for your SEO competition right now.

When I started building sites using SEO to run my first ad campaigns, I struggled to find what my competition was using. So, I did some research and I found a tool called Market Samurai (which many warriors are familiar with so I'm not going to post a link, you can google it and it's all over youtube) but this tool has done wonders for me when it comes to finding killer keywords for my campaigns and websites, mostly blogging.

Also, I've been able to rank organically for multiple keywords across different websites in the past using this same tool to guide me.

I'm really not big on softwares at all.. but I have to say that Market Samurai has saved me a ton of time and I have to give it credit for what it's been able to do for me and some of my fellow marketers

You are missing one very important step - checking for 'keyword in title'. Keyword in title is one of the strongest on-page ranking signals. Therefore, if your competitors are taking advantage of that, ranking above them will be harder.
