Why It's Important To Add Your Site To Google Webmasters

First for the paranoid ones, you can create a seperate email / account for webmasters for each site, that being said:

I had a site tank a while ago though the rankings seemed to slowly decrease, initially thought it was link loss, after that figured it might have been a Penguin or Panda penalty, but nope, just received this message in webmasters:

Some manual actions apply to entire site
Reason
Affects

Thin content with little or no added value
This site appears to contain a significant percentage of low-quality or shallow pages which do not provide users with much added value (such as thin affiliate pages, cookie-cutter sites, doorway pages, automatically generated content, or copied content). Learn more.

Site still receives traffic though so I was fine with it. The site is a typical Amazon affiliate review site with an Amazon affiliate theme named Amazillionaire. The site has about 20 reviews, and a couple of overview pages for hair dryers, flat irons and hair straighteners and is categorized as such as well. It's all reviews and monetized pages so not much of a surprise it received a manual penalty (nothing about links though which were as artificial as they can be).

Wonder what it takes to get this penalty lifted, I will do some redesigning and add some random articles to see if it makes any difference, will also do some demonetizing work.

No idea if that's enough but hell we can try!

First time I received a thin content manual penalty so pretty excited and food for another case study on my site how to recover from a thin content penalty with the least effort as possible obvious (probably will be declined first time but what we got to lose? A site that didn't rank anyway lol

I received this message on the 5th of October 2014, quite recently against my surprise so I guess there was already some type of Panda/Penguin penalty active.

Thanks for sharing, I would be interested in how you manage to get the penalty lifted and how long it takes to get reviewed.

It's probably not thin content. I would be checking your network sites pointing to that site.

That is the same message people got that were using Rank Hero when it got taken down.

I'm just mystified that its important to Add WMT to a site just so you can know your site is thin.

It's what a lot of people were reporting. I forget if I saw that on SERoundTable or BHW.

Generally the sites were not thin, or so these people claimed, but they were all using networks that got taken down.

I guess Google just did not want to come out and tell them, "Ha Ha. We found your network."

Or could it be that that was the reason the PBNs were found. Check thin sites that couldn't be ranking naturally for backlinks.....booom....... PBNs found.

Well, that is possible, but you and I both know there are way easier ways to spot most networks. No need to even go that route.

A lot of people say thin content penalties are the end of a website & it's pointless even trying to recover but in all honesty I've found them to be one of the easiest penalties to recover from, and I've recovered several.

Thin content is exactly that, all you need to do is go through your content & add more value - wallah, penalty removed.

You've just gotta question whether or not it's worth it, as generally thin content penalties are applied to affiliate sites with little added value so chances are it was either churn and burn anyway or it wasn't earning that much to start off with.

Good luck on your reconsideration though, I wish you the best of luck.

Perhaps but it is an efficient way to go after networks that are working very well. Shucks I think if you stay in just a handful of niches just about every PBN network catering to marketers will show up. For example almost any service provider of medium to large customer base will have a forex user or a "review"
niche. At least the public ones I have seen.

Good reminder I heard that as well.

We did a link cleanup for that site during Penguin 2.1 I think so the site didn't have much links at all.

The other 7 sites I added received way more links from my network, none of them received a thin content penalty.

My nework wasn't affected when RankHero went down, yeah only a few sites on Sky but this money site didn't have any links from them.

I checked the quality of the website and I agree that it has thin content.

I'm still betting it was thin. How much content can one really write about hair dryers?

I'm guessing this looks like a standard Spencer Haws microniche site and wouldn't be surprised to see manual reviews targeting the obvious Amazon affiliate garbage that's out there.

That thin content manual penalty is what most people using blog networks received when their sites got hit. GWT is useful but I don't add all my sites to my GWT account because I don't need it for all my sites.

Yep - could be a sign that PBN links were detected:

Read the article and at the bottom of the page is a link that link goes right to...guess who...Spencer Haws.

The dude who advocates little mini Amazon review niche sites that is full of ultra-thin content. Basically copies of product details from either the Amazon page or the manufacturer plus a synopsis rewrite of what the reviews on another site says. A site you can just go to and read the reviews for themselves.

This is pretty much the definition of thin content.

Actually this is tricky....what to do if you have let's say 35 websites? you add those in one Webster account? I say it is risky.....If you have 1-3 websites then yes you add to webmaster....
