Recent Penguin update and impact on IM

I have been doing some research on the latest Penguin update from Google which rolled out around 17th October 2014.

I note that irrelevant forum signatures looks set to have a hugely negative impact on websites which rely upon them.

I also note that scraped content will have a substantially detrimental effect on the websites ranking.

Personally I think that this is very positive because it encourages website owners to develop back links in the relevant niches which enhance their own site rather than going after spammy links.

I'm hopeful that some of the spam posts that we have seen here at WF will reduce as a result of this penguin roll out. Let's wait and see......

Keep hoping. When has effectiveness actually been a criterion for the types of things people do around here? Or the types of products that people sell for that matter... This is especially true in SEO where I swear that some people still think it's 1998. (Spoiler: the St. Louis Rams win the Super Bowl in 1999!)

Personally, I don't spend much time worrying about what Google thinks of my website. I'm too busy making sure my customers like it. Of course the funny thing is that when my customers are happy, Google is happy too. How's that for search engine optimization?

I agree, the best SEO (at least for long term) seems to be no SEO. Create good content and the rankings will follow over time.

Duplicate content and spammy backlinks has been the bane of webmasters for a long time. It didn't start now.

Perhaps a case study to prove that? Without backlinks you are going nowhere.

I guess I wasn't clear. Of course you need backlinks, but you will only get the right kind of backlinks by creating compelling content.

I've been through 2 major algorithm updates in the last 4 years and lost my income twice. Both times I was following everything most of the SEO crowd was doing.

      Just speaking from experience bud.

I now have an authority site earning me full time income and I wouldn't dare risk getting a backlink from a site that is linking out to other sites involved with shady SEO practices.

I would however get a high quality link from an authority site when it makes sense for them to link to my site.

With my current way of doing things, I don't even pay attention to algorithm updates because I'm not the one Google is targeting.

If I were getting into churn and burn stuff where I don't care about the long term, that's a different story.

If you believe that, then what is the reason behind your irrelevant forum signature links here?
