Do you think it is okay to use the same image for different articles within the same website? There are many reasons why someone might want to do this, but will Google count it as duplicate content?

Yes it will count it duplicate you should use some different size if you wanted to use that same image or find some replica of the image.

I am using an image which is a button that says "click here to see a bunch of products directly related to the topic of this page", and the link takes the visitor to an affiliate site. I am using this on multiple pages...

So you think this is dangerous? Google not going to like that are they?

The image wouldn't be the problem, the problem would be does Google see the multiple affiliate links pointing at a single external domain as doorway pages.

Personally I create a single sales page, then point any links from relevant pages at that one self hosted sales page, that finally has a checkout button going to the aff. domain checkout page. That way I can have as many pages as I want with only a single aff. link over the entire domain.

These images are fine for SEO, just change the original name to your own, according to your keyword...

Also, make sure they are not copy righted...

Usually, most of the reviews sites download product images from Amazon, then just change the name, and use them with review content.....

For optimization, of course, you can add alt tag, caption etc...

In the SEO aspect, Google cannot see images on web pages and it cannot crawl the content of image files so it is just fine to duplicate images on your blog. My concern is that your blog may not look professional if you choose to duplicate certain images.
