Does sheer number of pages with original content help ranking?

Hello Everyone,

If I simply keep on adding pages to my new website - with original content ('original' in the sense that it has all been written myself, with no cut and paste), and with a reasonably large wordcount on each page, does slowly growing the size of the website like that make any difference to ranking?

In other words, does the site somehow get 'taken more seriously' by Google just because it has started to build up original content?

(Apologies if this is a silly newbie question.)

Yes, it helps, but not seriously... you are not going to optimize any competitive keyword....... for ranking a competitive keyword, you have to add backlinks and many other SEO elements.

Large sites seem to rank better, although Google has denied that. Nevertheless, even if more content doesn't help you rank higher, it can help you capture more search traffic. So, you have nothing to lose and all to gain.

As the person above me has said, even though Google denies it, they seem to give more weight to website that look more like authority websites.

However, even if that is completely wrong, you should always be adding new content. New content that targets new keywords, that gains you more traffic.

For my own sites I have a rule. For every high quality link I build, I must add another high quality article. Doing this has kept me far ahead of the competition.

The more relevant and original content you have the better your rankings will be. Provided that you are sharing your content on social media networks and optimizing your pages according to the latest SEO techniques.

You still need though lots of relevant and decent backlinks to get good rankings.
