Hi everyone, so about a year ago I started work on a niche site that never really got finished.

Uploaded about 10 articles, but left it at that.

I want to begin developing it properly now, and I would much rather just wipe the whole site and start again - is this going to cause me any issues with SEO?

It's not ranking well or anything at the moment, but I wanted to check if there could be any negatives from this? I may pull the content and re-upload it on the new site.

Thanks in advance!

Alex

It's not a problem starting over on the same domain.

If you have any existing backlinks, redirect them to a new page/URL so the old backlinks aren't pointing at a 404 page after the site overhaul.

You can start over again on the same domain but don't switch to a new domain name. Since your current domain name has aged a bit, it's going to rank faster than a new domain name once you start building backlinks, so keep your current domain and rebuild the site on it.

  • Hey Alex - I have been there and have a list of domains I was trying to decide whether to ditch or hit the "reset" button with.

This short post has inspired me to give some of them another go! If you ever want to have a chat about tactics or how you are getting on, send me a message! It's always good to have someone there to hold you accountable haha!

    Hi,

What I would do is NOT swipe the site and just revive the content. Since Google has placed much weight on high quality content why not..

    - Make the content longer and better quality
    - Do some better on-page SEO for single and home pages. The reason I say this is because you might have to change the keywords around since you might have better selection and/or remove lower traffic ones.
    - You have so many tools and different post types you can use to publish on your website. Just fix it up. Take the existing content and add images, etc.

Are any of your keyword ranking at all. If they are, you might be able to get a boost by simply adding more content or information to them.
