Best Way To Rank For Multiple Keywords?

What have you found to be the best way to rank for multiple keywords? For example, if I had a site that sold many different kinds of widgets and I wanted to rank for Blue Widgets, Red Widgets and Green Widgets.

Would it be better to try and get the home page to rank for all 3 of those terms or to create separate pages for each with the keyword in the URL like, Widgets.com/bluewidget.html?

Also would it help to buy another domain like "BlueWidgets.com" that is a 301 redirect to widgets.com/bluewidget.html?

I seem to have conflicting advice and experiences and it seems like it's always easier to get the home page to rank.

Creating a different page for each specific keyword and optimizing from those pages is likely the best approach.

as there are so many posts in this forum and others regarding google endorsed money making scams etc It is dissapointing that you have not yet taken off the logos that imply endorsement from CNN, Fox News, Usa Today and Google. For that reason I hope that you dont mind if I dont spend any further time.
I'm going to assume your talking about tazsolmarketing's website and nothing to do with this post?

Thanks for the input... does anyone know if it helps to have a good domain with keywords in it forward to a page? Eg. Blue Widgets --> widgets.com/bluewidgets.html ?
