Hi Warriors,
I know that big percentage of you are from the UK so will ask you for some help. As a SEO i have many UK customers and need to build a ultimate list of high quality UK business direcotrories. I'm not talking about the hundreds of low quality, ready made directories. I'm talking about professional websites ( like Yelp ). So if you are operating on the UK market ,you probably know which sites worth the submission. I will be very grateful if you share thoose sites with me. I made deatiled search on Google,Bing and Yahoo but was able to find less then 10 directories which are good enough.to fulfill my criteria. And here si my criteria:

1. Accepting UK businesses only - valid UK address is needed in order to publish a company.
2. Quality - offer useful content with no or minimum ads
3. Real people - to have a real team ( developers,moderators..) behind the website
4. Free - to offer free inclusion with no obligations
5. Indexed - to have many pages indexed by Google

So far i found only these:

Yellow Pages - Yell - the UK's local business search engine
Yelp - http://www.yelp.co.uk
192 - Search for People, Businesses and Places - 192.com
Free Index - http://www.freeindex.co.uk
Thomson Local - Search for a UK business with the thomsonlocal.com directory.
Top Pages - Free Business Directory UK
Hot Frog - Hotfrog UK - Free online business directory
Cylex - Cylex Business Directory UK

I don't opened this thread for spammers to advertise their junk directories ( we all know them ) so will ask the moderators to delete all posts with self promotion. Please share only directories which meet all the above critera.

Most of the decent ones I've come across usually require payment in some form e.g. Check a Trade. Although this is a shame, at least they then end up maintaining a certain quality level.

Are you targeting a specific county or business type? Or purely trying to build up a list which could apply in all scenarios?

    Hi JakeM1,
I want to build a list with national directories (to cover entire UK), because the local ones will accept only companies in their area. Also, prefer general ones,so I can use them for all clients, but if you know any niche specific with decent quality, pleasae share them.
You are right that most good ones are paid. I was very surprised because the UK market is so big and i wasn't able to find even 10 free directories to meet my quality criteria...wow

Honestly the fees associated with "quality" directories just aren't worth it. You won't see any positive ROI from them, they really don't help much with SEO at all so whats the point?

I'd explore other avenues for your clients.

    Hi sweezeter,
Thats why i want to build a list of high quality directories which are free. In my personal experience they work very well ,but only if meet all the criteria in my first post. About the other methods of promotion you mentioned -can you be more specific? I'm always open for new valuable information

    Hi

I have used Business Directory, Advertise Business, Business Advertising

They have high PR (if that still has any bearing), and all internal pages are indexed and ranked. I have had some success using links from that directory.
