I think applying for an editor of SMOZ sounds like a good idea. LOL......Since 2010, I have submitted 5 websites to DMOZ and none of them are indexed by it. To be honest, I read the guideliness carefully and I am sure my website doesn't have any conflict contents. However, the result let me feel down over and over again.....PS: the 5 sites I submitted don't include the ones shown in my signature....

Editors are lazy. Editors believe one of the 10 rule that "become editor to get approved". Once, they add / approve their site that their job is over as "editor".

There few of top directories are not listed such as Bhanvad.com, Ezilon.com and few other are online for over 10 years.

There directories are listed in DMOZ for under 5 years, because they used corrupt rules, but they don't provide content or traffic.

I've submitted about 20 sites to DMOZ over the last 3 years. About half of them have been included in their directory and this thread made me curious as the why so I just went and looked at all of them that I submitted.

The only thing I can see is that the ones that were listed were all submitted after drilling down regionally.

I'm going to try and resubmit the ones I've submitted categorically (none of which made it in) and redo them and submit them by drilling down regionally and then selecting a category on a regional level.

How effective is a link from them these days? Is it worth jumping through hoops?

Sooner or later DMOZ will be like Yahoo! Directory
In my honest opinion I don't see the use of getting listed on DMOZ aside from having a backlink to a site.

Following these rules can't hurt, but it is still a tall order getting listed. Thanks for the share.

I am finding this process immensely difficult, is there an easier way, it keeps bringing me back to the DMOZ home page... A very frustrating experience indeed!

Get a domain already listed..become a DMOZ editor..
choose your category carefully..look for active editors..
follow their editorial guidelines..avoid cookie-cutter content..
avoid bombarding the site with submissions..avoid hype in
    titles and descriptions..avoid submission software..
    whatever you do,don't pay someone.
