Hello there!

I have a website on a dating niche in a small foreign language based market.

Benefit is its not that competitive so its easier to rank for a certain keywords.

So far I haven't put conscious efforts for SEO the site and it naturally got ranking 1st page for some keywords. However recently I watched few WP SEO tutorials, installed few plugins and made some SEO directed efforts.

Question I have is: what is the best way to measure the results after I put the SEO efforts.
I suppose I should get better Google position, but my targeted keywords doesn't appear yet on 1st page.

Any methods...

Cheers.

Looking at Googles Webmaster Tools search queries and impressions/clickthru's is a good way to see how you are doing when you aren't yet ranking well to see any traffic in your analytics.

In the Tools' search queries data you can watch your rankings go up from #100 to #80 to #40 etc and know you are making progress but obviously with these rankings you won't see any increase in visits.

    Does that make sense?

    Hi,

If you are looking to measure keyword improvements you can use GWT however with them they only provide average changes over the period. So if they say position "6" you still won't find it because it's an average over certain time frame.

For REAL-TIME results, you can use SERPFOX.

I have been using them and to track 50 keywords is $10 a month. They give you changes EXACTLY when they happen and I tested it to make sure what they show is correct and haven't had a problem.

    Thanks,

WhatsMySERP.com is a great tool to track your SERPs. It pulls results directly from google and checks the top 300 results, so it's great for new sites that aren't ranking well yet. You can also pick from tons of google country codes if you are targeting a certain area. It's also free, but you do have to register if you want it to track the last 60 days of results.

Use a rank tracking tool like micrositemasters.com. You can track 10 keywords for free. If you want to track more, you will have to purchase a paid account. Once you add your site and keywords to it, it will show you your site's current positions and you'll know if they increase after performing any SEO activities for your site.

    and...

Traffic levels of course. If your traffic increases, then you are making progress.
He's referring to better position for keyword NOT traffic progress.

Well better position will affect traffic progress (but only will be noticeable if on 1st or 2nd page)

I tried this one today, however I notice mismatch with the data that it gives me and the actual results in the SERP. The tool says a certain keywords is on X position on Google, but when I google it its usually higher in the ranking.

Could it be due to I'm in specific geo location ?

When you check google, are you changing settings so you don't get historical results from google? If you frequent certain sites, google will list them higher. But on your geo question, if the search involves a local business, you will get different results from a local search than if you were in another state, like searching for a dentist.

Whatsmyserp.com pulls their results direct from google. It uses private proxies from various locations across the U.S. and Europe, and inevitably will also hit different google data centers for results, but rest assured, the results it shows, and it does show details, are coming direct from google.

OK I got that! So will it be more accurate if I ask lets say a friend of mine to google certain keywords from different location. Or is there a way to google myself keywords but somehow ask google to show rezults that are non specified in geo location.

The idea here is to check how the keywords are moving in the SERP (up or down) and compare it with the SEO actions that I've put.

I don't know if you can get google to do non-specified geo locations. The best way to check for changes though is to use an accurate tool and use the same tool daily that records and graphs the daily changes. If it trends up in the same serp tool, you are doing something right and should see increased traffic.

            Hi lowriderzzz,

You can just append the following URL parameter to the address after performing your search to see results with personalized search results disabled:

            &pws=0
            Example:
            https://www.google.com/search?q=warrior%20forum&pws=0

I must be reading the OP wrong because I thought he was asking how to check results for a given Geo location that is foreign to him so turning off personalized results and a pile of other suggestions would be useless.

best thing is to find a proxy or VPN located there and do a Google search.

There are many free sites which are giving details about rankings and other details. Strange thing is that the reports from these different sites are different. You can rely on any site of your choice which you can easily find and you can understand the results in their presentations.
