Hey,

I have an opportunity to pay and publish a guest post on a higher authority site. Site's PR6 and DA 58 with a clean backlink profile. However, I've checked some of their articles, and most pages have Page Authority of 1. How come? Isn't there juice coming from the domain into the page? Because if that's the case, I don't think I should be interested in a backlink from a page with authority of 1, even if the DA is 58, right?

Thanks for clarification! Bit confused here.

Authority travels through links, so if there is no link to those pages or it is deeply, deeply buried, yeah it won't have much authority. Also, keep in mind that Moz is not always crawling websites really deep. It could just be something they visited months ago and have not returned since.

    Hi,

These are metrics from SEOMOZ and there has been much question about the value of these. I do personally use it when creating content because I think it can provide value. DA refers to age, popularity and size of the domain and the longer it's been around the better the chance of it ranking within the SERP's. Next,

Page Authority refers to the likelihood of the page ranking within the SERP's. When you first publish content it will have a high DA (depending on domain) and a PA of "1" however this can be influenced. Many times the amount of high value internal links linking to the page will help boost the PA.

I've been publishing on many guest blogs and as a rule of thumb the owner has always said is to link to an internal source in first paragraph and last within my content before publishing. I would suspect because it helps higher the PA hence increase the SERP rankings of the page.

If you are going to be guest posting, check the PA of other guest posts on the website and see what PA they have overtime. Also, you might want to encourage internal links to your post. Next, if you write epic content and the blog you are posting on has high traffic, you can get many links to your content on the guest blog increasing value.

When I first published my guest post it was PA 1 however after 1 month it's at 37 which has a lot to do with internal linking pattern demanded by owner and some external links pointing to my guest post.

Personally, I would be more concerns with brand awareness through blog and traffic potential.

Here is an excerpt from my post which helps explain DA and PA

"Domain Authority – Is measured using these 3 factors: Age, Popularity and Size. These 3 factors are all important because the recent Panda update has paid close attention to these factors when ranking websites.
The older the domain means the longer it’s been around and built credibility over time providing a valuable resource to visitors.

Popularity can be contributed to the website producing high quality content which resonates which its readers and has enormous social shares. A website which is popular has produced enormous amount of links through blogging, interlinking, commenting, social media and article marketing.
The larger a website in “size” means it has enormous amount of content interlinking between pages. A larger website with quality content tends to have more links then a smaller website which will have very few.

    Next…

    Page Authority
    – Relates to the pages within the website and the likelihood of that specific page ranking high within the SERP’s. The metrics involved are relevance and inbound links pointing to that page from external resources."

A page authority of 1 simply means that Moz hasn't updated their database of links since the page was created. After they do, you'll see a different PA value assigned to the same page. I recommend you wait for 1 month and check again.

I've seen guest posts on blogs which have been around for 6 months and still have "PA 1". I think other factors definitely need to be assigned for PA to increase.

Okay, I found a few more cases like that, and I'm puzzled. Can anybody explain?

Reinvent our transportation systems for reduced emissions and more jobs - Cars & Transportation - Articles - Environment News - Green Blog

    PA: 1
    DA: 40
Article was published back in February 2014. Indexed and everything. Every database would've been updated by now for sure.
Links on the homepage to its articles are all dofollow, no problem there.

What's going on? Why are the pages still PA1 and no juice is being passed from the domain?

    Hi,

I checked out the website. It looks spammy and content so no longer than 500 words. Today they had "3" posts all crappy. Just go to blog and check out recent entries. I don't think this site provides value so won't think any pages linking to the others internally will provide value to them either. It's "thin" content linking to "thin" content.

This is EXACTLY the types of sites Google was aiming to take down when Panda rolled out.

Not a good site and provides no value. To me it looks like a link building website. No wonder PA doesn't increase.

As an example, I don't want to go around posting too many links when I can just explain instead. I posted a guest post on a blog which is reputable and the blogger is a pioneer I work with him for years and his blog is one of the best.

I posted on July 24th, 2014 and my PA is 47.

Shows quality of site, other content and reputation matter.
